Working with New HTML Template Editor of Blogger!

New HTML Template Editor for Blogger

If youre using a blogger blog, then you should notice some major changes in its HTML editor. Google made those changes couple of months ago. You will see the code is colored, folded and very much structured. You will also notice some new buttons which were not available earlier. What are the uses and benefits of these buttons? Read more to know . . .

Only a few days ago, I published a post on Blogger vs. WordPress. In that post I said - WordPress is matured, but there is a continuous improvement on Blogger. And the new HTML template editor of blogger is a part of that improvement! Today I will discuss about how to work with the new html editor.

I was very much angry after such a change in the template editor. Because several times I was puzzled by the new options and interface. But as soon as I got familiar with the new editor, I really like it. If youre familiar with all the new options I think you will also like it.

Okay lets start. Sign in to your blogger. Go to the design or dashboard. Then hit on the Template tab from the left pane. Now click on Edit HTML button. Your template will be appeared as the image below:

Tips: Backup the current template to avoid any mishap!

Image of New HTML Template Editor of Blogger

Now closely look at the above image. This is the new look of the HTML Template Editor. I am gonna talk about each part of the new editor:

  • Line Number: Each line of the template are numbered. When editing the template, if you made any error then error message will be shown as - error on ### line. Thus you will know exactly where you made mistake.
  • Folded Code: You may face problem due to the folded code. In the above image, look at the line number 1078. After 1078 there is line number 2033! More than thousand lines are hidden. Clicking on the folder marker  ? you can show those hidden lines.
  • Jump to Widget: This button is really helpful for navigating through the template. If you click on the down arrow, you will see the parts of your template. You can go to any part by a single click. For example- Blog 1, HTML 1, HTML 2 etc.
  • Format Template: Dont be confused. It will not delete your template! When you format your flash drive then all data are erased. But here format means formatting the template. If you hit on the Format button, the indentation of your template will be corrected automatically.
  • Revert Changes: If you hit on this button, the unsaved changes will be removed automatically. Suppose you made some random changes in your template. But before saving it, you cant remember whether everything is correct or not, in that case you can hit this button to cancel the changes you made.
  • Search Box: As more than thousand lines of your template are folded, you cant find your desired part of the code by using the browsers search box. Thats the new editor gives you a new search box. To activate the search box you have to click on any part of the editor. Then Press Ctrl + F to enable search. Press Shift + Ctrl + F to find and replace. Press Shift + Ctrl + R to replace all.

Old options are also available along with these new buttons. You can preview your template by hitting on Preview Template button before saving it. Or if you would like to back to the default settings of the widget then click on the Revert Widget Templates to Default button.

Working Out 45 Min After Dinner Improves Post Meal Blood Glucose Trigs More Effectively Than Working Out Before

Resistance training alone wont make up for a sloppy diet - no matter if you do it before or after meals.
I am not sure how feasible this is going to be for you, but if you are a type II diabetic or anyone concerned about the potential detrimental health effects of the rise in glucose and triglycerides after a meal, working out 45 minutes after dinner is the way to go.

Abnormally elevated postprandial glucose and triacylglycerol (TAG) concentrations are strong risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with type-2 diabetes. Therefore, scientists expect that interventions that reduce postprandial glucose and TAG concentrations should lower the risk of CVD (Krook. 2003; OGorman. 2008).

Previous studies have shown that acute exercise typically lowers postprandial glucose and TAG concentrations (Tobin. 2008) in patients with type-2 diabetes, but as Timothy D. Heden et al. point out, there is considerable heterogeneity in the responses with some individuals not experiencing beneficial changes in these risk factors (Gill. 2007; van Dijk. 2012).
"One potential explanation why some patients with type-2 diabetes do not have beneficial changes in postprandial glucose and TAG with acute exercise is because of the timing of the acute exercise session relative to meal consumption. Limited evidence suggests that the timing of aerobic exercise around a meal may be important and might explain why some individuals are exercise “insensitive” or “non responders”." (Heden. 2014)
The only study to directly compare the effect of pre-meal and post-meal aerobic exercise on postprandial glucose concentrations in patients with type-2 diabetes showed that post-dinner, but not pre-dinner walking, lowered postprandial glucose concentrations (Colberg. 2009).
Figure 1: Previous studies indicate that aerobic workouts after meals have more beneficial effects on the potentially unhealthy increases in glucose or triglycerides (Collberg. 2009)
Although no study has directly examined the effect of exercise timing on postprandial TAG in patients with type-2 diabetes, there is evidence that exercise performed the day prior to a high fat meal has no effect on postprandial TAG responses (Dalgaard. 2004; Gill. 2007), while post-breakfast aerobic exercise reduced the postprandial TAG response (Tobin. 2008). Taken together, it appears that aerobic exercise may have its most powerful effect to lower postprandial glucose and TAG responses when performed after a meal, possibly because of slowed gastric emptying and/or greater skeletal muscle glucose and TAG uptake and utilization at this time.

The question that remained was: Is the same true for resistance training?

Since resistance exercise (RE) has a more pronounced long(er)-lasting effect on ones metabolism than aerobic training, the researchers from the University of Missouri tested the hypothesis that post-dinner RE, compared to pre-dinner RE, would in fact be more effective at improving two clinically important postprandial risk factors (glucose and 109 TAG) for CVD at a time of day when they are typically highest in obese patients with type-2 diabetes.

The standardized test workout consisted of the following exercises (in this order): leg press, seated calf raises, seated chest flyes, seated back flyes, back extensions, shoulder raises, leg curls, and abdominal crunches. All exercises were performed for three sets (1-2 min rest between sets) of 10-repetitions for each RE. During this session, the first set for each exercise was a warm-up set and the weight used was 50% of the participants 10-RM. After the warm-up set, the weight for the next two sets was the participants previously determined 10-RM.
Figure 2: Postrandial lipid response in the obese type II diabetics (Heden. 2014)
As you can see in Figure 2 the scientists suspicion was right, the postprandial workout (M-RE) had significantly more pronounced beneficial effects on the lipid metabolism of the type II diabetic subjects who consumed a standardized breakfasts (English muffin, cheddar cheese, one large egg, ham, hash brown, ketchup, and apple or orange juice) lunch (white bread, ham, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, a granola bar, and apple or orange juice) and dinner meals (spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce with beef added, garlic bread, a lemon lime flavored soda, and 1.5 g of acetaminophen (to assess gastric emptying)) containing ~50% carbohydrate, 35% fat, and 15% protein.

Similar effects were observed for the insulin and glucose responses (see Figure 3) which were significantly improved and should thus complement the beneficial effects of the reduced triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels.
Figure 3: Changes in postprandial insulin and glucose levels (Heden. 2014)
Bottom line: Before we get to the actual interpretation of the result let me briefly point out that it would probably have been at least as effective if the subject had not been fed bull**** like ketchup, mayonnaise, granola bars, and purportedly healthy, but de facto obesogenic fruit juices. The unfortunate truth, however, is that 99% of the type II diabetics still eat like this. For them, the use of resistance training after each meal may be a possible, but unquestionably not practical way to ameliorate the unwanted cardiovascular side effects.

In view of the fact that most diabetics dont work at all, I am 100% convinced that the results of the study at hand have zero practical significance - even I wouldnt go work out after dinner only to lie in bed hungrily, thereafter, And if I did, I would raid the fridge later at night - certainly not a practice thats heart healthier than working out before dinner.

Speaking of which: Working out before dinner would also mean working out after lunch and could thus effectively help the increase in triglycerides and glucose after lunch. Not too bad either, right? | Comment on Facebook!

Working with Photoshop Color Range

Photoshop Color Range Command

Photoshop guys are very familiar with the color range option of Adobe Photoshop. Color range command is a great tool for selecting the areas of an image based on sampled color. And its somewhat similar to Magic Wand Tool. In Magic Wand Tool you need to manually click on the areas of an image that needs to be selected. But if you use the color range option, you just need to choose the sample color. And Photoshop will make the selection by itself!

This tutorial applies to all running versions of Adobe Photoshop including CS4, CS5 and CS6. But Ive prepared the tutorial using Photoshop CS5. All the images of this post will be based on Photoshop CS5.

Color Range

Color Range belongs to the Selection part of Photoshop. You will find it under the Select Menu. Run Photoshop from your PC > Open an image from your hard disk > Go to the Select menu > Choose Color Range. You will get the following image:

Color Range Window in Photoshop CS5

Have you noticed Marks PC Logo on color range window? Here the white part is currently selected. If you would like to expand the selection area then click on the pencil button from the right side with plus mark. Now go to your image and hit on the part that you want to add to your selection.

Make sure Sapmled Colors is enabled in the Select option.

You can also increase/ decrease the amount of Fuziness adjust the selection. If you make any wrong selection or if youd like to remove something from your selection then choose the Pencil button with negative sign. Then hit on the part of image you want to deslect.

Eyedropper Tools

The three tools just below the Save button is know as eyedropper tools. The left one is called Eydropper, middle one is Add to Sample and the right one is Substract from Sample

Fuziness and Range

Ive told earlier that Fuziness will control the amount of selection. By increasing and decreasing the range, you can control the amount of selection. And Range will control how much area of the image will be selected.

To be honest, color range command is somewhat difficult to explain. You need to practice it by yourselft. If you click on the options, increase or decrease the value of different fields, you can easily understand. So, try to explore!

Working with Photoshop Stroke

How to Apply Stroke in Photoshop

Photoshop Stroke belongs to layer style. You can add stroke outside of an image, text or shape. When you apply stroke over something, it looks like a border or outline. You can also choose different colors for stroke. And you can also adjust the size, position and opacity while applying stroke.

Last month I wrote about how to work with Fill & Opacity in Photoshop. I think you should also have a look to this tutorial. It will be helpful for you.

Photoshop Stroke

Look at the two images below side by side. The left one has no outline. But the right one has a border outside of it.

Photoshop Stroke Effect

No stroke has been applied on the left image. And the right image has a stroke outside of it. You can also use stroke with texts and shapes. Stroke can highlight something. Sometimes after applying stroke over something, you can minimize the fill. In that time, you will get stroke highlighted and the inside dimmed! Learn more . . .

How to Apply Stroke?

If you wanna apply stroke over an image then open it. Or create a new document and then type something or take any shape on which you wanna apply stroke. Now make sure youre on the right layer I mean your image or text is selected. Also make sure that your Layer window is turned on. Now go to the strong as shown in the image below.

Strok Option in Adobe Photoshop CS5

Hit on the fx (Add a layer style) at the end of layer panel and choose Stroke. Now you will get the Layer Style window. Look at the Stroke options below:

Stroke in Layer Style Window

Adjust the size and look at the effect of your stroke outside the image or text. This is very important. Sometimes 1 px doesnt make any sense. Though it depends on the situation I prefer 2 or 3 px. Certainly a fat stroke will not make any sense.

Keep Position - Outside, Blend Mode - Normal, Fill Type - Color and Opacity - as your wish. If you minimize the opacity from 100% to 60 or 70%, then your stroke color will be darken somewhat.

And finally choose a brilliant color for the stroke. Hit on the color box and select different colors to test the result. After choosing the color, hit on the OK button.

You can also explore some additional options from Layer Style window. Suppose Drop Shadow, Gradient Overlay, Satin, Bevel and Emboss these are really cool options here. These can turn your normal image into an outstanding one. And these are really awesome for creating superb text!

After applying stroke, also adjust the Fill and Opacity of the layer. These control the transparency of your image. Adjusting the transparency will give you a completely different look.
