Working with New HTML Template Editor of Blogger!

New HTML Template Editor for Blogger

If youre using a blogger blog, then you should notice some major changes in its HTML editor. Google made those changes couple of months ago. You will see the code is colored, folded and very much structured. You will also notice some new buttons which were not available earlier. What are the uses and benefits of these buttons? Read more to know . . .

Only a few days ago, I published a post on Blogger vs. WordPress. In that post I said - WordPress is matured, but there is a continuous improvement on Blogger. And the new HTML template editor of blogger is a part of that improvement! Today I will discuss about how to work with the new html editor.

I was very much angry after such a change in the template editor. Because several times I was puzzled by the new options and interface. But as soon as I got familiar with the new editor, I really like it. If youre familiar with all the new options I think you will also like it.

Okay lets start. Sign in to your blogger. Go to the design or dashboard. Then hit on the Template tab from the left pane. Now click on Edit HTML button. Your template will be appeared as the image below:

Tips: Backup the current template to avoid any mishap!

Image of New HTML Template Editor of Blogger

Now closely look at the above image. This is the new look of the HTML Template Editor. I am gonna talk about each part of the new editor:

  • Line Number: Each line of the template are numbered. When editing the template, if you made any error then error message will be shown as - error on ### line. Thus you will know exactly where you made mistake.
  • Folded Code: You may face problem due to the folded code. In the above image, look at the line number 1078. After 1078 there is line number 2033! More than thousand lines are hidden. Clicking on the folder marker  ? you can show those hidden lines.
  • Jump to Widget: This button is really helpful for navigating through the template. If you click on the down arrow, you will see the parts of your template. You can go to any part by a single click. For example- Blog 1, HTML 1, HTML 2 etc.
  • Format Template: Dont be confused. It will not delete your template! When you format your flash drive then all data are erased. But here format means formatting the template. If you hit on the Format button, the indentation of your template will be corrected automatically.
  • Revert Changes: If you hit on this button, the unsaved changes will be removed automatically. Suppose you made some random changes in your template. But before saving it, you cant remember whether everything is correct or not, in that case you can hit this button to cancel the changes you made.
  • Search Box: As more than thousand lines of your template are folded, you cant find your desired part of the code by using the browsers search box. Thats the new editor gives you a new search box. To activate the search box you have to click on any part of the editor. Then Press Ctrl + F to enable search. Press Shift + Ctrl + F to find and replace. Press Shift + Ctrl + R to replace all.

Old options are also available along with these new buttons. You can preview your template by hitting on Preview Template button before saving it. Or if you would like to back to the default settings of the widget then click on the Revert Widget Templates to Default button.

How to install drivers on a new motherboard

You can install a new motherboard while either building or rebuilding a desktop PC. If you plan to run your PC under Microsoft Windows, you also need to install motherboard drivers. For Windows, no motherboard is a "plug and play" device: a Windows PC cannot run correctly until you install its motherboard drivers.
If you plan to run your new PC only under a LInux distribution, such as Ubuntu or LInux MInt, you do not need to install motherboard drivers. Of course, if you plan to dual boot Windows and Linux, you do need to install motherboard drivers for Windows.
Each new motherboard ships with a driver-installation disc (CD or DVD). I developed and tested the below procedure on my rebuilt PC; your actual procedure will vary according your specific motherboard. Therefore, to install your motherboard drivers, do approximately the following:
  1. Install MS Windows. Note: Do not expect your Windows PC to run correctly until after you install its motherboard drivers.
  2. Insert the driver-installation disc, and then navigate to its contents.
  3. Click Setup.exe to display a dialog window.
  4. Click the Driver icon to list the drivers to install, such as Chipset, Display, USB2, Network Chip and HD Audio.
  5. Select (checkmark) all drivers, click Install and then observe the installation progress.
  6. After the drivers have installed, click Exit and then reboot your PC.
  7. If your PC is not running correctly, repeat steps 3 through 6. (My PC required this.)

Let There Be Light 10 New Studies to Enlighten You About the Health Effects of Light Exposure on Health Physique

No, the sun does not kill you. If you control your exposure it may extend your life and improve your life-quality significantly.
Its about time to "let there be light" to illuminate the benefits of regular well-timed exposure to sunlight and its short frequency component. Only recently, researchers from the Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) were able to show that daytime light exposure has significant beneficial effects on cognitive brain activity. Significant enough to have the subjects perform better on an oddball task and to significantly increase cortical activity related to cognitive processes (Okamoto. 2014).

But is that really all, bright light, or more specifically, the regular and well-timed exposure to bright light can do for you?
The effects on circadian rhythm could be behind the Suns anti-cancer effects

Sunlight, Bluelight, Backlight and Your Clock

Sunlight a La Carte: "Hack" Your Rhythm
Breaking the Fast to Synchronize the Clock

Fasting (Re-)Sets the Peripheral Clock

Vitamin A & Caffeine Set the Clock

Pre-Workout Supps Could Ruin Your Sleep
Certainly not. I mean if its ill-timed, like the evening use of light-emitting eReaders it will negatively affect your sleep, mess up your circadian rhythm and decrease your alertness on the next morning. Similar results, i.e. drowsiness and suppression of energy metabolism the following morning, have been reported by other studies, as well (Kayaba. 2014).

As a SuppVersity reader you do yet know all about those negative effects from the circadian rhythm series, anyway. Reason enough for me, to focus primarily on all the good stuff, the well-timed exposure to bright light can do for you in todays Special of the SuppVersity Short News.
  • If you cant let go off your mobile at night, use blue blocker glasses as a countermeasure for alerting effects of evening light-emitting diode screen exposure - According to researchers from the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Basel, blue blocker glasses (BB) significantly attenuate LED-induced melatonin suppression in the evening and decrease vigilant attention and subjective alertness before bedtime.

Strangely, though, visually scored sleep stages and behavioral measures collected the morning after were not modified. Still, van der Lely et al. conclude: "BB glasses may be useful in adolescents as a countermeasure for alerting effects induced by light exposure through LED screens and therefore potentially impede the negative effects modern lighting imposes on circadian physiology in the evening "(van der Lely. 2014).
  • UV-light protects against "brainflammation" in MS model - Scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison report in their latest paper that UV light selectively inhibits spinal cord inflammation and demyelination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.

Previous studies have already shown that UV radiation (UVR) can suppress experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple-sclerosis (MS), independent of vitamin D production. The mechanism of this suppression did yet remain to be elucidated, until Wang et al. (2014) observed that UVR (10kJ/m²) does not just inhibit the inflammation and demyelination of the spinal cord, but will also dramatically and significantly reduce spinal cord chemokine CCL5 mRNA and protein levels.

In conjunction with an increased production of intereron-gamma (IFN-?) and IL-10, which are actually used to treat all sorts of autoimmune diseases, artificial and natural UV light can thus actually "prevent the migration of inflammatory cells into the CNS" (Wang. 2014).
  • Melatonin conc. after 4 days w/ dim vs. bright light and tryptophan rich vs. poor breakfast (Fukushige. 2014).
Bright light in the AM and the consumption of a breakfast thats high in tryptophan can help you maintain a healthy circadian rhythm - In case you are asking yourself how you can grasp all the benefits that are associated with having an intact circadian rhythm, you may be intrigued to hear that researchers from the Fukuoka Womens University have been able to show that an increase in tryptophan intake at breakfast combined with daytime light exposure has beneficial effects on melatonin secretion and sleep quality. As you can see in the figure to the left it will significantly elevate the evening melatonin peak, which is critical for an optimal circadian rhythm.

If you are looking to optimize your internal clock bright light (either sunlight or a 10,000 Lux daylight lamp) + tryptophan (seeds, nuts, soy, cheese, chicken, turkey, fish, oats, beans and eggs are the TOP10 sources) are the way to go. If you want an extra "kick" add some coffee to the equation. This will increase the light responsiveness of the circadian pacemaker - well, at least in mice it does (Diepen. 2014).
If you want to design your own "dawn simulator" thats the spectrum you need (Virginie. 2014).
Wanna be smarter, but cant get enough sleep? Start your day with a dawn simulation: Chronic sleep restriction (SR) has deleterious effects on cognitive performance that can be counteracted by light exposure. Scientists from the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Basel have recently been able tho show that a dawn simulating in the AM will increase your task performance throughout the day after morning; and whats best: The benefit was most pronounced in those participants who sucked the most when they didnt get a good nights sleep (Virginie. 2014).
  • Bright lights at work will keep you sane, happy and alert - If you are working in an insufficiently lit office without natural sunlight, you should be prepared to develop physiological, sleep and depressive symptoms.

Assuming you have a window in your office, you will get a significantly more pronounced total and peak exposure to bright light thats going to correlate with 33% reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol, a more natural rhythm of melatonin and a reduced risk of minor psychiatric disorders and depressive symptoms (MA) in the evening.

Thats at least what the results of a recent study from the UFRGS in Porto Alegre indicates (Harb. 2014). A study the authors of which proudly say that their "study demonstrated that not only may light pollution affect human physiology but also lack of exposure to natural light is related to high levels of cortisol and lower levels of melatonin at night, and these, in turn, are related to depressive symptoms and poor quality of sleep" (Harb. 2014).
  • If you want to light up the darkness, when its actually time to sleep do it with green (555nm) or red, not blue light, which suppresses melatonin (Bonmati-Carrion. 2014).
Staying away from nightly night exposure may also help to keep your arteries clean even in the old age - Studies indicate that even after  adjustment for confounding factors, including age, gender, body mass index, current smoking status, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, sleep medication, estimated glomerular filtration rate, nocturia, bedtime, duration in bed (scotoperiod), day length (photoperiod), urinary 6-sulfatoxymelatonin excretion and daytime and nighttime physical activity, exposure to light at night is associated with carotid intima-media thickness (Obayashi. 2014).

If you dont want to develop subclinical carotid atherosclerosis, when you are old, it would thus be a good idea to adhere to the basic rules of sleep hygiene: a dark room and/or blindfolds will keep your arteries clean and may thus save your life ;-)
  • If you have kidney problems, get out in the sun if you want to survive - Scientists from the University of California Irvine Medical Center were able to show that dialysis patients residing in higher UV index regions have lower all-cause mortality compared to those living in moderate-high UV regions (Shapiro. 2014).

More specifically, the ~60year-old subjects residing in moderate-high UV index regions had a 16% reduced risk of all-cause mortality. Those living in very-high UV index regions had a 1% higher risk reduction (17%). Interestingly, there was a similar inverse association between UV index and mortality was observed across all subgroups, but it was more pronounced among whites vs. non-whites.
  • Wear those shades (or bluelight blocker glasses) before any important sport event - Why? Stupid question. If you dabble around with your smartphone "unprotected" the evening before an important sport event for only 30 minutes, this can influence exercise performance under hot conditions during the subsequent early morning (Thompson. 2014).
Even brief light exposure, when your eyes are closed messes with your circadian rhythm.
Pah, when your eyes are closed, light is not a problem, right? Wrong. Even ,illisecond flashes of light phase delay the human circadian clock during sleep. While a greater number of matched subjects and more research will be necessary to ascertain whether these light flashes affect sleep, data from a recent study from the California Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center suggest that 2-msec light flashes given every 30 sec have an effect on the circadian rhythm of healthy volunteers. And while Zeitzer et al. (2014) tried to use the flashes to modify the rhythm in a beneficial way, the exact opposite can also be the case. It all depends on how / when you are exposed to light when you sleep.
Sleep disturbance and adaptive immunity. Following a night of sleep loss, or during a period of sleep disturbance, nerve fibers from the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) release the neurotransmitter norepinephrine into primary and secondary lymphoid organs and stimulate the adrenal gland to release stored epinephrine into systemic circulation. Both neuromediators stimulate leukocyte adrenergic receptors (e.g., ADRB2) and activate nuclear factor (NF)-?B-mediated inflammatory programs (Irwin. 2015).
  • If your grandparents have Alzheimers install a timer-based light system - This may not just increase their sleep quality, but it will also improve their behavior and mood as indicated by reduced depression scores on the Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia and agitation scores from the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (Figueiro. 2014).

I must warn you, though: The recent field study from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is promising, but the results should be replicated using a larger sample size and perhaps using longer treatment duration.
  • If you have to work night shifts consider using 1-5mg melatonin 1h before you go to bed - Why? You have to counter the natural decline in melatonin production that occurs over consecutive days of night work (Dumont. 2014).

In a recent study from the Sacre-Coeur Hospital of Montreal the melatonin production of the healthy volunteers decreased progressively decreased over consecutive days of simulated night work, both during nighttime and over the 24?h. Interestingly, this decrease was larger in women using oral contraceptives and independent of bright light exposure.
  • Get out into the sun and cure your back pain - If your back hurts and neither you or your doctor have a clue why, try getting into the sun. A study from the UMIT in Austria shows that only three sessions in front of 5.000?lx lamp improved the depressive symptoms and reduced the pain intensity in CNBP adults with chronic nonspecific back pain (Leichtfried. 2014).
One of the side effects of blue light LED exposure (open circles) in the PM is a sign., but practically prob. irrelevant reduction in energy exp. on the next morning (Kayaba. 2014).
Bottom line: I really hope that I do not have to sum up the results for you. I mean, it should be obvious that sleep hygiene at night and light exposure at day are among the most important factors of the lifestyle-factors in the exercise + nutriton + lifestyle solution to perfect health & obesity protection (Partonen. 2014).

Against that background I would like to use the last lines to put another emphasis on the results of the recent study by Kayaba et al. (2014) which found that one of the negative consequences smartphone junkies have to suffer on the morning after using their devices before bed is a reduction in energy expenditure.

If you take a look at the data in the figure at the right (open circles = exposed; full circles = non-exposed), you will yet realize that this probably isnt the worst side effect of blue-LED light exposure in the evening. The reduction is significant in the AM, yes, but on its own its not practically relevant | Comment on Facebook!

Create New Volumes without Partition !!

Shrink Drives to Create New Volumes

Disk Management is a nice tool to manage your hard disk drives. With this tool, you can easily format, shrink and extend your existing volems. You can do some other tasks too. But today Im gonna discuss about creating new volumes by splitting existing volumes.

Background Story

Two weeks ago, one of my acquaintances got a new laptop. It comes with Windows 8, Intel Core i5 processor and 1 TB Hard disk. Not very extraordinary nowadays. But I was really surprised when heard there is only 1 partition in his laptop!! Can you believe it? One partition for a 1 TB hard disk! My goodness - this is a thousand GB partition!

I know how to split a drive to create new partition. But didnt even try this earlier. After getting the case of 1000 GB partition, I tried to shrink a drive in my own PC. After successfully trying this on my PC, I advised him how to divide the one partition into several drives. By this time maybe he has fixed this. :)

Supported Versions:

Disk Management tool is same both in Windows 7 and 8. Windows XP may have the same advantage but Im not sure. If XP users has any problem, you can inform be through comments.

Create New Volumes Without Partition - No Restart! No Interruption!!

Make sure youre the Admin of your PC. And right now youre logged in as Administrator. Now start -
  1. Right click on My Computer icon from desktop. (How to show My Computer icon on desktop)
  2. Hit on the Manage option.
  3. Computer Management window will appear.
  4. Choose Disk Management under the Storage option from the left pane.
  5. Here you will get the list of your volumes with capacity and free spaces.
  6. Right click on the drive you wanna shrink.
  7. Select Shrink Volume and you will get the below window.
Shink Size Before and After

Here you will get the total size before shrink. Now enter the space to shrink. Simply count the 1000 MB for 1 GB. In the image Ive used 5000 MB for 5 GB. Then check how much you will have in the drive after shrink. Before proceed, make sure everything is okay.

Now Press Shrink > You will get the following image > Right click on the Free Space > New Simple Volume > Pres Next > Enter Simple Volume Simple > Next > Assign Drive Letter (Suppose L) > Format the volume (Choose format type, label) > Next > Finish.

Within few seconds, you will get a brand new drive!

Creating New Volumes by Disk Managment

How to Get it Back?

Suppose you made a mistake. Or you were just trying to do it. But dont want to divide the volume actually. How do you get the new volume back to your old volume? Very simple!
  1. Right click on the new volume.
  2. Choose Delete Volume.
  3. You will get the above image again.
  4. Now right click on your old volume and choose Extend volume.
  5. Press Next > Next > Finish.

This procedure doesnt require any restart. Even you dont need to close any program running on your PC. Its fast, simple and reliable.

Precautions:

While running this operation you should be very careful. Though this tool is safe to use, but you may lose your data for any wrong command. Suppose, you may delete a volume which contains your valuable files. Or you may format an existing partition which contains important data. So, before making a click, be sure youre really doing the right job.

If you have any query, dont forget to leave a comment . . .

New Logo Badge of Marks PC Solution

Hello Guys! Hopefully youre visiting Marks PC Solution regularly. You know, most of the posts of this site is unique. And almost all of the posts are useful and interesting. Thats why its been targeted by plagiarists! Many posts of this site are being copied with images. Thats why Ive decided to use Marks PC logo and badge where possible. And Ive already redesigned the logo and its being used with new posts.

Previous Logo:

The previous logo had nothing special on it. It was simply the letter M in Monotype Corsiva font. Just have a look:

The new logo has been designed just by making a little change over the previous one. Monotype Corsiva is still in use. Ive just cut the corners of the old logo. From now and then, our logo will be this one:

As the contents of this site are being stolen copied by some sites, Ive decided to use the logo or badge of Marks PC Solution. Below is the badge of this site:

When new post will be published, this badge will be inserted with the post images if possible.

In April 2013, I wrote a post about how can you punish the plagiarists. And in the next month, I wrote about how to protect the contents of your site. You can find these below:

  • How to Punish Your Sites Contents Thieves?
  • Protect Your Sites Contents by DMCA

Though both of the tips are quite useful, but its really a time consuming task to find and punish the copiers. So I think, using the logo or badge with post image is a better solution. But you shouldnt damage the quality of your post image by inserting your logo inappropriately. And its not necessary that you will use your logo with all the images.

Reviewing Tech Smiths in New Paltz New York

If you live within driving distance of New Palz, New York, a small college town in the Hudson Valley, and you need computer repair or service, I highly recommend Tech Smiths. Whether you own a PC or a Mac, I am sure you will find their technicians helpful and their fees reasonable.

In February, 2012, my partners iMac computer failed completely. Despite carefully trying everything recommended in her iMac documentation, she could not boot her system. It would only beep sadly. After borrowing my standby Linux PC to search for "iMac repair," she found Tech Smiths, which is "Hudson Valleys only Apple Authorized Service Provider." She also found a big store nearby that could repair her iMac, but only if she had bought it there.
As we walked into Tech Smiths for our first visit, we braced ourselves for what usually passes as "service" (meaning not so much). To our delight, all three technicians were knowledgeable and cordial. After a technician greeted us politely, I asked, "How soon can you look at her iMac?" To our astonishment, he smiled and answered, "Is right now soon enough?." Grinning, I answered, "Probably." It only went uphill from there. After determining her iMac needed a new RAM-memory module, the Tech Smiths replaced it quickly and inexpensively.
We will not hesitate to visit Tech Smiths when we again need computer service. If only every business could be run in such a calm, gentle way, which succeeds by treating employees and customers fairly.

New Domain for Marks PC Solution!!!

On December 15, 2011, I started Marks PC Solution. And it was hosted on blogger. Ive created thousands of links in blogs, forums, websites and social media. Now this site has 337 posts published. Thats why I was reluctant to purchase a custom domain. But some of my online friends and the readers of Marks PC Solution advised and requested me to get a custom domain.

Finally with the help of +Anzaq ali Ive purchased a domain from GoDaddy on April 29, 2014, costing $12/year. Now the new URL is http://www.markspcsolution.com/. I tried for this one - markspc.com but someone has secured this domain for sale. However I think this will be easier for the users to remember. Because munnamark.com doesnt carry any meaning. And markspcsolution.com is completely matched with the site title.

Since Anzaq Ali created the domain on behalf of me, I cant show you the process. Because I need to show the screenshots. Anyway you can set up the URL from the Settings option of blogger. And at the same time, you need to create an account on any web hosting site ie. Go Daddy, Hostgrator, Bluehost etc.

Effects of URL Change

Naturally you may wanna know what happens to my site after changing the URL In fact, there is no change in the number of visitors and pageviews. Because visitors are being redirected automatically from my previous URL (munnamark.blogspot.com) to new URL. So the amount of traffic is same.

But Ive partially lost my SEO score, page rank, social rank, backlinks etc. The previous URL got PR 1. And I may get this back after few weeks. Alexa traffic rank was approximately 100000. And now its showing 13235178! I can also get this back within few months.

But Ive almost lost my Facebook Likes, Google +1s, Tweets. And certainly this will take few years to get back!

And I even dont know when it will be possible to create valuable backlinks throughout the web. Because I dont have enough time to write on other websites as I did before.

Get a Custom Domain as soon as Possible

If you wanna be a professional blogger, please start with a custom domain. Whether youre using Blogger or WordPress, starting with your own domain is a better idea. Otherwise you will not be willing to change your URL after writing 100 posts. But you have to change the URL when the number of posts will cross 300! In that time you will think that changing the URL after publishing 3000 posts will not be a good idea.

Thats why I have to make a tough decision . . . :)

Happy New Year Hangover Cures 8 Cures That Work Two Dozen Purported Cures That Have No Scientific Backup

Happy New Year! In case this guy looks anywhere similar to how you feel after yesterdays party night, todays SuppVersity article is for you!
"Happy New Year", health, love, ... you know the whole litany, so lets get over it and straight to the things that are really important, today. The hangover cures. In the following I have compiled an extensive yet probably by no means complete list of scientifically proven hangover cures that may help better than aspirin and plenty of water (Harvard Health Letter. 2006), alone.

Apropos aspirin, its actually not too bad to start with 400-800mg of it, if you are having a hangover. It has after been shown to block the increased prostaglandin synthesis in response to alcohol ingestion and thus counter at least the inflammatory aspect of the hangover (George. 1979).
Better consume protein than alcohol learn why at the SuppVersity

Alcohol Hampers Muscle Gains!?

Sex, drugs... no good for athletes?

Red Wine Lowers LDL / HDL Ratio

Alcohol and Binge Eating

Non-alc. Beer = Sports Beverage

Alcohol May Trigger Gyno
The latter cannot be said of another common pain killer: Acetaminophen, which failed to inhibit ethanol-induced subjective effects in human volunteers in a 1992 study by Pickworth et al. The same study by George et al. would yet also suggest that aspirin may also prolong the time it takes for the alcohol to leave your system completely... and this may not be your only problem, because the coingestion of aspirin and alcohol has been associated with an increased risk of gastrointestinal haemorrhage (Needham. 1971).

So what do you do if water and aspirin are not enough? Well, here are a couple of suggestions - in a more or less random order, since there are hardly any studies that compare the efficacy of one to another.
  • Figure 1: Effects of 200mg tolfenamic acid on hangover symptoms in man (Kaivola. 1983).
Tolfenamic acid - Tolfenamic acid is a very specific prostaglandin biosynthesis inhibitor that lead to significant reductions in hangover symptoms in a 1983 study by Kaivola, et al. (see Figure 1).

The only problem is: The subjects consumed the 200mg of the anti-migraine drug tolfenamic acid before they started binge drinking. Whether the effects are similarly pronounced if you take it the day after remains to be elucidated.
  • Gamma linoleic acid (GLA) - The omega-6 fatty acid from vegetable oils like rapeseed/canola oil and soy beans, walnuts, flax seed (linseed oil), perilla, chia, and hemp seed effectively reduced the hangover symptoms of human volunteers in a study the results of which have unfortunately never been officially published (Moesgaard; based on Pittler. 2005).

In view of the fact that I have only 2nd hand access to the results I cannot tell you how much GLA you would need. Considering the effect that the supplement contained B officinalis aka Borage, which contains 26-36% GLA, if its not specifically enriched, I would yet assume that 100-300mg should do.
Figure 2: Symptoms and possible contributers of hangover (Swift. 1998).
  • Yeast + B-Vitamins: Another trial tested the efficacy of 250 mg dried yeast, 0.5 mg thiamine nitrate, 0.5 mg pyridoxine hydrochloride, and 0.5 mg riboflavin in participants who consumed vodka (40% volume alcohol) amounting to a total of 100 g absolute alcohol (Laas. 1999). The difference in the change for the symptoms discomfort, restlessness, and impatience was statistically significant in favor of the yeast preparation and appear to suggest that the corresponding supplement aka "Morning Fit" works.

Moreover, corresponding research from the Chungnam National University in Korea shows that a preparation of combined glutathione-enriched yeast and rice embryo/soybean extracts constitutes a  "a promising candidate for improvements of alcoholic hangover" (Lee. 2009), as well.
  • Oh!K - A hangover cure with green ginger, turmeric, pepper, and green tea extract, along with salt, citric and ascorbic acid and fructose as the carrier worked pretty well in a recent study by Gopi et al. (2014).
  • Sprite! Or rather a sprite-like herbal drink - In the media you may have read about Sprite, when in fact the two drinks researchers from the Sun Yat-Sen University in China tested and found to be effective in increasing the production of the enzyme that helps our bodies to get rid of alcohol were xue bi, a fizzy lemon and lime drink of which the researchers did not declare that it was indeed Sprite and hui yi su da shui, probably a type of soda water (Li. 2014).
  • After Affect(R): Another commercially available anti-hangover cure "proved" to be effective in a non-randomized non-controlled trial from the Utrecht University (Vester. 2012).
Table 1: Rationale for the ingredients included in After-Effect©. 1 - Total dose of 5 capsules. 2 - Only those symptoms that showed a significant improvement during alcohol hangover are listed. GLA: gamma-linolenic acid, EPA: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and DHA: docosahexaenoic acid (Verster. 2012).
If it were not for the reasonable ingredient profile (see Table 1), I probably wouldnt have listed it, but with GLA, magnesium, B-vitamins & co it does contain a bunch of ingredients that may actually help.
  • Party Smart (carbonate mix) - Yet another commercial preparation that contains calcium carbonate (615 mg) and vegetable carbon (345 mg) and has - unfortunately - to be consumed while you are drinking.

More specifically, the subjects in the 2004 study by Manu et al. consumed their first serving of two caplets with first drink and two more caplets every 2 to 3 hours (or 5 to 6 drinks).
Figure 3: Mean hangover score and mean blood alcohol 10h after drinking (Manu. 2004).
The data in Figure 3 does yet indicate that this alkalization regimen worked pretty well (I wonder if sodium bicarbonate would to the same ;-) is a pretty effective means to (a) keep the hangover in check and (b) help your body clear the alcohol from your bloodstream.
  • Aging! Ok, I know this does not really help you today, but maybe on New Years Eve 2065! Tolstrup et al. found that hangover following engagement in binge drinking is much more common in the young than in the older age groups (Tolstrup. 2014). For women, similar results were obtained.

As the scientists point out, "[t]his finding could not be explained by the usual amount of alcohol consumption, frequency of binge drinking, or the proportion of alcohol consumed with meals" (Tolstrup. 2014).
List of anti-hangover remedies from the Internet - all w/out scientific evidence that they work (Pittler. 2004).
You still feel like dying? If all these cures didnt help and you feel as if you were about to die, today, you may have inherited a special gene variant from of Aldehyde Dehydrogenase (ALDH2) an Asian ancestor that makes you extra susceptible to more severe hangovers (Wall. 2000).

And if you are totally desperate you may want to give C scolymus aka Artichoke leaves and O ficus-indica extracts a final try. While two randomized controlled trials did not intergroup differences for their main outcome measures (Pittler. 2003; Wiese. 2004), both are often hailed as natural hangover remedies. The same can be said of most of the other remedies you will find if you google anti-hangover cures on the Internet (see table on the right). As Pittler et al. highlight in their 2005 review of the literature, none of them has reliable scientific evidence that would confirm that they are working | Comment on Facebook!
