How to Put Blogger Site Offline

Both Blogger and WordPress have an option to put the site offline or make it unavailable permanently or temporarily. You may need to put your site offline for a number of reasons. In this post, I will just talk about how to limit access to a blogger site. At the same time, you can deny the search engines to access your site and you can also restrict general people to view your contents.

As mentioned earlier, there could be several reasons behind putting the site offline. Such as -

You can restrict search engines to crawl your site. Because you would like to decorate your site first. In that case you can limit search engines access.

You may need to make your site unavailable temporarily due to political violations or religious issues.

Or may be the site could be a private one. Maybe its subject to be unavailable to the public.

Whatever the reason, or even if you dont need to put your site offline, at least you should know the way. Some bloggers even think, why I put my site offline? When Im trying to cirulate the site as much as possible? Ive already mentioned the reasons! :)

Restrict Search Engines Crawl your Site

You can limit search engines access to index your site if necessary. Follow the steps below -

Go to Blogger Control Panel/ Settings/ Dashboard.
Choose Settings from the left pane.
Select Basic > Basic > Privacy.
Choose No for both options as below.
Hit on the Save Changes button.

The first No doesnt matter much. But the second No matters! If you choose No in the second option, your site will not be crawled by search engines. But everyone will be able to access your site.

Restrict Public Access to your Contents

If your site is private and you dont want people view your contents, then you can absolutely restrict public access. Follow the steps below -

Go to Blogger Control Panel > Settings.
Choose Basic under the Settings option.
Find the Blog Readers option under Permissions section.
Here you have three choices: Public, Private (Blog Authors), Private (Selected Persons).
If you choose the second option, only blog authors will be able to access the site. Other people will just get a message - This is a private blog.
If you would like to add some readers, then choose the third option. Then add readers from your contact list or you can type their emails. Whenever they try to access your site, they have to log in.
Finally, hit on the Save Changes button.

Tips!

If your site is totally new, then you can use the Privacy option only. You can stop search engine crawl your site. Because search engines will not find enough contents in a new site. Thats why its better to write first. Then you may let search engines to index your site. But you can keep your site Public.

Making Site Compatible with AdSense Policies

While applying for the AdSense, there are different ways you might get disapproved by Google. One of them is Incompatible Site. You will get a message like this - Site does not comply with Google policies. Its really frustrating when your sites content is okay but Google denies your AdSense request.

Today I would like to discuss how to solve the issue - Site does not comply with Google policies. In fact, after having the custom domain, Im also facing the same problem. But I can solve it within few days.

Design and Content Guidelines

Your site should have a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be accessible from at least one static text link. I suggest you to use Blog Archive and Categories.

Provide a sitemap for the users so that they can explore your site as they want.

Make your site useful and informative. Keep your contents accurate and clear. Read my contents writing guidelines . . .

Think about the words which users might search for and include those words in your contents post titles. Dont forget to relate your contents to those key words.

Images are not recognized by search engines. Use as much text as possible in your contents. And label your images properly, consider using the Alternative description too.

Try to find out HTML errors (if any) and fix them.

Technical Guidelines

Keep your site faster. Analyze the loading time of your site through various tools available over the web. Slower sites get less pageviews. So, never let it down.

Test your site in major browsers (ie. Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari etc.) and make sure that it appears correctly.

Properly use robots.txt so that search engines can crawl your site smoothly.

Get your domain registered in high quality servers.

Quality Guidelines

Built your contents primarily for the users, not for the search engines.

Never try to deceive/mislead your users.

Never follow the illegal techniques that automatically improve your search ranking position by cheating the search engines. (Black Hat SEO)

Differentiate your site from competitors. Keep it unique, informative and valuable for the users.

How to Claim a Site in Facebook

Do you know, you can claim your domain/site in Facebook to get insights? If you register your site on Facebook, you can view analytics for referral traffic, stories, user engagement and other related information. And definitely this will help you to take better actions for your site.

I always say, if Facebook were a country, it could be the most populated state of the world. Its a site with the most registered active users. No other site, even Google and Twitter cant attract users as much as Facebook. Most of the users waste their valuable time on Facebook.

Today Im writing about - claiming/ registering a site on Facebook. You can do this easily. All you need is just adding a simple meta tag before your closing head (</head>) tag.

Never try this trick if you -

Dont have a website/ blog
Dont have a Facebook ID

Okay, Im talking too much for a little trick! Lets back to the track -

Visit this page - Facebook Insignts
Domain Insights > Add your Domain
A new window will appear with your name and a meta property
Type your sites URL there (ie. www.markspcsolution.com)
Copy the meta property (ie. <meta property="fb:admins" content="100002117543096" />) and paste it in your sites HTML closing head tag.
Now hit on the get insights button.
If youre done properly, you will see your domain here.

Hope youve completed the task easily. But I couldnt do this as easily. Dont know why the meta property didnt appear when I was trying to implement the code in my site. Maybe something was wrong in that time when I was trying.

If anybody face the same problem, I mean if the meta property with your numeric FB ID didnt appear as shown in the above image, follow the steps below -

Go to Facebook Insights
Hit on the Add a Domain button
Enter your domain in the domain box
Find your numeric Facebook ID
Copy the following code and paste it in your sites HTML header section

Replace the above numeric ID with yours. And the code should be placed before the closing head tag - </head>

You can also use several IDs here. Suppose you want multiple users to get your sites insights. Then you can use more than one ID as below -

Remember, this will just help you to get insights from facebook. If you wanna customize your sharing URL, Image or description you need to use Open Graph. I will discuss it later. Thanks.

Happy New Year! Dont mind I know this is too late. I should write a post early in the morning. But I didnt have any idea that time. Just two days ago I discovered that Marks PC got the Page Rank! Then Ive decided to start the new year with a good news.

What is Page Rank?

Stat My Web Get Detailed Analysis of Your Site

There are many sites that collects and shows information about blogs and websites. Some of them are very reliable and some of them are not. Alexa, Google Analytics, Web Rank Stats are some of the examples.

Today I am gonna discuss about such a site that gives you detailed analysis and information about your blog or website. Maybe some of you are familiar with Stat My Web. This website shows you a comprehensive analysis of your site. It provides a statistics summary, inpage analysis, alexa status, safety & security, popular pages, keywords and many other information about your site.

Look at the image below. This is the statistics summary of Marks PC Solution on Stat My Web.

But this is a minor part of the statistics. If you enter the URL of your site on Stat My Web then you will find the details.

Okay lets find out the statistics for your site. First you need to visit Stat My Web. Remember, no sign up is required! This is a great thing. You dont need any account for getting analysis. There is a search box at the top right corner just below the tabs. You can either search your site by Name (ie. Marks PC Solution) or simply copy and paste the URL of your home page (ie. http://munnamark.blogspot.com).

After entering the URL, results will be arranged in a few parts.

Alexa Traffic Analysis: This part is taken from Alexa. And almost similar to what information you see about your on Alexa.

Naturally people get bored when they see too much ads on TV Channels, Newspapers, Magazines even on blogs and websites. But a clever publishers task is to make the ads interesting and useful for the visitors. Today I would like to share some rules for ad placement with you. Make sure the ad categories are related to your site. For example if your site is related to Computer, Internet, Hardware or something like that, then ad categories should be like - Antivirus, Software, Technology etc. Irrelevant ads will not be able to impress the visitors. Even they may feel uneasy if any adult ads appear while visiting your site.

Never do the Following / Ads Behavior:

This is an important issue while placing ads on your site. Consider these carefully:

Never place the ads which appear in a pop out/ fly out window. It does nothing but irritates the visitors. I usually never back to the sites that use pop out ads.

Never use full page ads. Maybe it pays you better, but when you lose visitors it will give you nothing!

Never use adfly ads or something like adfly on your site. People just hate it! :)

Never place any ad that automatically redirects users in a new page or that automatically open a new window.

Never place any ad that makes your site down. Be careful while placing heavy ads like flash.

Never place any boring and irrelevant and adult ads on your site.

Never place any ad that increases your sites loading time.

Always Remember:

Visitors should be your primary concern. You should always try to retain your existing visitors. Never do anything that bores your visitors. Your site must be fast, safe, reliable and good looking. But it doesnt mean that you use too much colors and ads on your site.

While placing ads within your posts, make sure it doesnt create any problem to read the text. Because a person actually visits your site to collect information. If he faces any problem to read the text then why will he back to your site in the future?

Finally I would like to advise you, never try to deceive people. Never try to force them to click on ads. Let them understand what is the ads and what is your contents. If the visitors think the ads as your contents and hit on these then they might be angry with you.

Search engines run the world. Internet world is useless without search engines. You may argue that Facebook is not a search engine. But its a big search engine. Facebook needs to search appropriate person, place or group for you! When you need to find something, we usually search this either in Google, Bing or Yahoo. But a tiny blog or website should also have a search engine.

Most of the websites and even blogs have a search option. It makes easier to find something in your site. And it could be also helpful for you to search something on your site. If youre using a blogger blog then you should be familiar with the default search box of blogger. You can easily add this from Layout tab through Add a Gadget option. But today Im gonna talk about Google Custom Search. Its a nice tool by Google that lets you create a custom search engine for your blog or website. Now Id like to show you the step by step procedure to create a custom search engine for your site. Before that, have a look at the custom search engine of Marks PC Solution- MPS. Lets begin -

Visit and sign in to Google Custom Search Engine home.
Hit on the Add button to create a new engine.
Enter your sites URL in the Sites to search box (ie. http://munnamark.blogspot.com)
Choose your desired language.
Type a name in the Name box. (ie. Marks PC Search Engine)
Hit on the Create button. Done!

If everything is okay, you will get a confirmation message.

Hit on the Get Code button to get your search engine script.
Hit on the Public URL to view your search engine page.
Hit on the Control Panel to edit your search engine settings.

How to Install?

Its as simple as adding a JavaScript!

First youve to select your search engine.
Then go to Setup > Basics > Details > Get Code.
Copy the script and Place it in your template properly.

Example: Youve to place the code within the <body> </body> tag. See the structure below. And choose a proper location where you wanna setup the search box.

And in blogger, installing the script is much easier. Simply go to the template. And then Add a JavaScript. I suggest you to place it either below the title or at the right side bar.

Customization:

As this is a custom search, you can customize it as your wish. Lets customize -

First go to the Google Custom Search Home. Select your search engine from here. Now you will see a control panel as the image below:

There are different options to customize your search engine. You can go to every option and change settings if necessary. First you can start with Setup option. Here you will get Basics, Make Money, Admin, Indexing etc. You can rename your search engine, give it a description, provide keywords, change language and add more sites to include in your search engine.

In the Make Money option, you can add your AdSense account here. If people use your search box and hit on Ads by Google, you will be paid through AdSense.

In Look and Feel option, you can change the layout and theme. In the customize option, you can change everything as you wish. In thumbnail option, you can choose whether pictures appears with search or not.

Monetize your Site by Infolinks

Infolinks Ads for Blogger, WordPress and other Websites

Several posts have been published by Marks PC Solution about monetizing the blogs and websites. As said earlier in the previous posts- infolinks, YllixMedia these are for those sites who are not getting AdSense Ads.

Infolinks allows you to publish ads if you have a blog or website. Infolinks Ads are something different from other advertising sites. One of the main types of infolinks ads is In Text Ads. Other advertising sites dont have this special type of ad system.

Okay, lets see how to integrate infolinks ads in a site. Like all other sites, you must have an account on Infolinks. Follow the instructions below:

First, you need to join infolinks as publisher.
Click on the join us button, enter your sites URL and then fill up the required fields. Or you can use your Facebook account to sign up.
You may need to confirm a mail from your email inbox. Then your account will be activated.
After activating your account, login to infolinks. Then go to the integrate option.
There are 5 types of codes: JavaScript, WordPress, Blogger, Drupal, and Joomla.
I recommend you to choose JavaScript code. You can manually place this code on your site. And it must work with any blog or website.
Copy and place the java code in your site.

Adding Multiple Site

Youre allowed to advertise multiple sites with a single infolinks account. At the left pane you will see a button named Add a Site. Or just follow this link. Now enter URL, Category and Language of of your site and hit on the submit button.

Customizing the Ads

Infolinks allows you to customize the ads. There are four types of Ad Units. I would like to tell you something about them:

InText Ads: This is the most attractive ad unit of infolinks. InText highlights the keywords of the page. Few words of your page will be linked. You can increase or decrease the number of links to be appeared in a page. I suggest you to choose at best 12 words or less. Choose dotted link style. And there are seven color options. Choose a color that looks best. Mark turn on InText option and then hit the Save button.

InSearch Ads: Insearch displays relevant ads to traffic arriving to your site from search engines while infusing another SEO layer to your site. Here you can only customize the color nothing else. Ads will be shown by a fly out menu. Before using this ad unit, you must think about whether it will make visitors uneasy or not. I personally dont link this Ads Unit.

InTag Ads: You should use this unit on your site. Because it will never make your visitors angry. And this unit can hardly slow down your site. If you enable this unit for your site, then few linked words will be displayed in a place. You can Automatic or Manual option, double line or single line and change the link color.

InFrame Ads: Before telling something about this unit, I will suggest you to skip this unit. It will display banner units in your site. Banner will be displayed as pop out window. But most of them are boring. And they usually bore visitors. Sometimes these ads doesnt let you read the sites contents properly! When I visit any site and see these types of ads, I immediately leave that site! And her you cant customize the Ads behavior actually.
