Curcumin Genistein Pomegrenate Co A Dirty Dozen of Supplements Foods to Keep Your Prostate Cancer Free

Which of the dirty dozen of supplements and foodstuffs in todays SuppVersity review can really help you to make sure, youre not the one out of those nine men who develops prostate cancer?
Supplements that are supposed to protect you from developing prostate cancer and/or agents that may help patients with existing prostate issues are - obviously - in high demand. And as W. Merkle points out in a recent article in the German science journal Urologe using them - even if they may not be as effective as some patients may believe - makes sense: from a psychological perspective, alone (Merkle. 2014).

Taking a pill with selenium, for example, has been shown to alleviate some of the side effects of chemotherapy. General protective effects against prostate cancer, on the other hand, have not been established. In fact, the most recent studies rather suggest that "supplementation did not benefit men with low selenium status but increased the risk of high-grade PCa among men with high selenium status" (Kristal. 2014).
Supplements are nice, but without exercise you are missing 50% of the anti-cancer equation!

Luckily, there are other supplements with more promising data. Supplements that will actually complement, a healthy diet and active lifestyle, the two pillars of all (not just prostate) cancer protection. Supplements like...
  • Curcumin - As a SuppVersity reader youve probably already expected to see the curcumin on the list. Its potent anti-inflammatory effects and more specifically its ability to target multiple inflammatory pathways, which include NF-KappaB, COX2, STAT3 and high levels of CRP, Prostaglandins and TNF-alpha make it a particularly valuable anti-tumor agent of which Guo et al. observed in a recent study that it will induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of prostate cancer cells by regulation the expression of IkappaBalpha, c-Jun and androgen receptor (Guo. 2013)
  • Genistein - Just like curcumin, genistein acts on NF-KappaB (Adjakly. 2013). In addition it will upregulate a protein called miR-574- 3p that will have cancer cells "kill themselves" (go into apopotosis; Chiyomaru. 2013). In addition scientists have found genistein to support the efficiacy of Cabazitaxel which is used for the treatment of hormone-refractory prostate cancer.
  • Pomegranate - Pomegranate extracts or rather its ingredients, i.e. ellagic acid, caffeic acid, luteolin and punicic acic, have been shown to inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells (NCI. 2013).
Figure 1: If you look at the actual increase in apoptotic cancer cells in response to the pomegranate treatment, it is obvious that some patients (e.g. #53) benefited more than others (Pantuck et al. 2006)
A clinical trial by Pantuck et al. (2006) was also able to show that the time it takes for the PSA levels, an albeit debatable marker of prostate cancer risk, to double decreased significantly, when the subjects, men with rising PSA after surgery or radiotherapy, were treated with 8 ounces of pomegranate juice daily (Wonderful variety, 570 mg total polyphenol gallic acid equivalents) until disease progression. Unfortunately, a more recent study by Stenner-Liewen et al. (2013) could not confirm these effects.
  • Brassica vegetables (cruciferous vegetables) - While general vegetable intake is already associated with a -39% reduced risk of developing extraprostatic prostate cancer (cancer, eating tons of cruciferous vegetable, it was the intake of broccoli and cauliflower that made the biggest impact in a 2007 study by Kirsh et al.

Even if they dont protect you from prostate cancer broccoli & co will inhibit myostatin and could help you to grow more muscle... well, at least theoretically, you know about the difference between the petri dish and the real world, so dont expect monster gains | more.
As it is usually the case the evidence is yet ambiguous. In a 2002 review of the evidence, Kristal, et al. found that of the six studies they could clearly interpret, only three reported statistically significant reduced risks (P < 0.05), while one reported a borderline significant reduced risk (P = 0.06). Against that background Verhoeven et al. are right, when they say: " Further epidemiological research should separate the anticarcinogenic effect of brassica vegetables from the effect of vegetables in general" (Verhoeven. 1996).

More recently, Joseph et al. found that the existing differences in the epidemiological data may be due to genetic polymorphisms due to which only men with a certain genetic polymorphisms in glutathione S-transferases M1 and T1 will benefit from eating tons of cruciferous veggies (Joseph. 2004).
  • Green tea - Green tea is good for everything, right? Well unless its not loaded with toxic molecules (see previous SuppVersity article) this may in fact be right. Convincing evidence from human trials is albeit scarce. What we do have are rodent studies like the ones that were conducted with TRAMP mice, which model closely mirrors the pathogenesis of human prostate cancer.

In these mice EGCG, one of the main catechins in green tea, decreased the proliferation of prostate cancer cells and reduced the PSA levels. Scientists believe that these effects are mainly mediated by the effects EGCG has on the growth promoting proteins ERK1/2. Unfortunately, the same rodent studies also suggest that it is probably too late for many of you to start drinking green tea, now, because said beneficial effects are only observed in young, not in old TRAMP mice (Donald. 2012).
  • Coffee is for the ladies, too! Studies show significantly reduced risks of breast cancer with 5+ cups of coffee. Tee and cacao help, as well | more
Coffee - Obviously I am biased, when it comes to coffee. I still hope you believe me when I say that drinking 5+ cups of coffee per day has been associated with significantly reduced risk of prostate cancer in what is probably the most large-scale meta-analysis of the topic today.

In their meta-analsis of 12 peer-reviewed case-control studies, Lu et al. calculated a 4% risk reduction for Europeans who consumed five or more cups of coffee and Americans who consumed 4 or more regular cups of coffee (equ. to approximately 400-500mg of caffeine). Moreover, the scientist found "a significant inverse association in all categories of prostate cancer except Gleason <7 grade" in both the "fixed-effects model" and the "random-effects model" (Lu. 2014).

Wilson et al. also report an inverse association between coffee consumption and the incidence of highly malignant prostate cancer (Wilson. 2013). This means that drinking coffee is not only going to reduce your overall risk of developing prostate and other cancers (Geybels. 2013), it will also increase your chance that in the unfortunate case you still develop cancer, its going to be a benign and treatable form of prostate cancer.
  • Lignans (e.g. from flaxseed) - While many of you will probably know them as "bad anti-androgens", there is little doubt that lignans from flax and other foodstuff inhibit cancer growth. What is particularly interesting about these agents is that they dont work via the "regular" NF-kappaB pathway but inhibit the expression of the vascular endothelial growth favtor (VEGF; cf. Azrad. 2013).
  • Lycopene - Its the bright red carotene and carotenoid pigment and phytochemical that gives tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, gac, and papayas, although not in strawberries, red bell peppers, or cherries their color.

Based on the currently available evidence it appears to help not just with prostate, but also with pancreatic, intestinal and lung cancer (Giovannucci. 1999). In that, it makes a particularly effective adjunct to classic cancer therapy (Tang. 2011).
Figure 2: Prostate cancer risk w/ high vs. low intakes of the given antioxidants according
    to XRCC1 genotype (Goodman. 2006)
Unfortunately, the data is ambigious... as usual. Unlike for other agents, it does yet appear as if scientists have already identified a certain gene, i.e. XRCC1, which appears to determine whether you do or do not benefit from the consumption of increased amounts of tomato lycopene (Goodman. 2006).

In view of the fact that certain genotypes actually increase their prostate cancer risk specifically if they are consuming both, a high amount of lycopene and vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), the latest Cochrane Review on the protective effects of lycopene against prostate cancer considers the evidence for "preliminary" and "insufficient" (Ilic. 2011).
  • Fish oil / omega-3 - In spite of the fact that the media jumped at the finding of the SELECT trial (learn more) that claimed that selenium would be bad, while a high fish consumption or rather a high amount of omega-3s in the blood would protect you against prostate cancer, a close re-analysis of the data you can read up on at the website of the Life Extension Foundation indicates that this was all media hype.

With a de facto difference of only 0.18% the difference was... well, youd say a joke, scientists would say "within the margin of statistical error" and thus by no means significant. If you take an even closer look at the data, it would even seem as if omega-3 fatty acids would increase the risk of prostate cancer.
  • Resveratrol - If you look at the existing evidence you will be surprised to find studies that indicate that resveratrol increases (Klink. 2013) and studies that show that it inhibits prostate cancer growth (Iguchi. 2012; Kai. 2011).

Again, it took a closer look at the data and another experiment to find out what really was going on: a dose-dependent effect with increased risk with low and decreased risk with high doses of resveratrol (Benitez. 2007). Bad news: With the current low biovailable oral resveratrol preparations youre likely to end up in the "increased risk" resveratrol exposure zone.
  • Selenium - While I have mentioned it in the introduction already, its certainly worth taking a closer look at what selenium is actually supposed to do.

In their 2011 review of the literature, Rizky Abdulah et al. didnt just highlight the many different molecular pathways, by which selenium could protect you from developing cancer, they also point out that the type of selenium supplement used could be of critical importance with respect to the success of your efforts to avoid the development of cancer. In that,...
In rodents selenium acts as corrosion inhibitor in the brain | learn more
"[...] methylselenol is believed to be the critical metabolite in selenium chemoprevention. Since methylselenol is highly reactive, methylselenol precursors such as Semet and Se-mSC are important both in in vitro and in vivo experiments. Semet and Se-mSC conversion to methylselenol, however, requires enzymatic conversion by the enzyme ?-lyase, which is 800 times less prevalent in human tissues than in mouse tissues.
This may explain why the results of Semet and Se-mSC anticancer studies in humans were not as impressive as in vivo experiments. Although researchers have now turned to other Se compounds such as mSeA, which do not need enzymatic conversion to methylselenol, or selenite, which does not need to be converted to methylselenol for its anticancer properties, more substantial research on selenium compound metabolism in human tissues is necessary." (Abdulah. 2011)
In other words, as of now, we dont know which form of selenium we actually have to use in human trials to generate similar impressive results as they have been observed in rodents.

And as if that wasnt already "bad" enough, a meta-analysis of intervention studies by Hurst et al. (2012) indicates that there is a very narrow "band" of serum concentrations, where selenium is actually good for you! When your selenium level passes 170 ng/ml the tumor-protective effect disappears and - worst case scenario - your risk increases. So remember: More does certainly not help more!
  • Silibin (from milk thistle) - You probably think of milk thistle as a "liver supplement". In fact, its main active constituent will yet also reduce the efficacy of osteoclast cytokines and reduce the concentration of RANKL-ligands. Thus it will regulate the NF-?B und AP1 levels in cells and inhibit the proliferation, invasion and migration of metastatic prostate cancer (Ting. 2011; Chen. 2012)
  • Vitamin D - Believe it or not: There are things vitamin D3 cannot do! One of this things is to protect you prostate cancer. Thats the prerogative of active vitamin D aka calciferol. In rodent studies and studies on human cell lines calciferol and multiple analogs of active vitamin D have shown to be promising drugs for prostate cancer protection, though (Tokar. 2005).

Underestimated Vitamin D Sources: Eggs, Chicken, Pork, Fish & Dairy Contain Ready-Made 25OHD | more
Since simply popping tons of vitamin D3 is (luckily) without effect on the levels of calciferol (otherwise you would run the risk of being calcified from the currently prevalent abuse of vitamin D3 supplements), using vitamin D3 is less effective, but not useless.

In 2010, for example, Woo et al. observed that the time it took for the PSA levels of prostate cancer patients to double was significantly reduced, when the subjects received 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day (Woo. 2005) - an effect of which previous in vitro studies suggest that it could be due to the local conversion of D3 to active vitamin D in prostate cancer cells (Tokar. 2005).
  • Vitamin E - Needless to say that vitamin E has gotten a bad rep ever since scientists observed an increased risk when they gave the subjects of the SELECT trial vitamin E (learn more). Still, as long as you stay away from "classic" vitamin E and buy one of the still expensive tocotrienol supplements (or eat red palm oil), you can expect an anti-proliferative effect of the vitamins E (Conte. 2004; Srivastava. 2006)
Its never too late to make a change! In September 2005, researchers from the University of California-San Francisco pub- lished a study that shows that intensive lifestyle changes (i.e. changin the way you eat, the amount of exercise you get, etc.) may affect the progression of prostate cancer in a highly beneficial way (Ornish. 2005) - with PSA reductions of -4%, reduced glucose levels (-70%!) improved blood lipids and higher, not lower testosterone levels.
Bottom line: While all of the above supplements and food constituents will help, nothing beats a healthy lifestyle with a balanced whole foods diet, stress control and regular exercise.

Overweight (+20% risk for BMI >25.38, already), gaining 5-10% weight after your 20s (+30%; Putnam. 2000), being self-employed (+170%) and thus probably stressed, having a family history of prostate cancer (father +140%, brother +420%), being a "former drinker" (beer +20%, wine +20%) or a current liquor drinker (+40%) and consuming more than 96g of alcohol per week (+50%), on the other hand, will - for most of the variables unnecessarily - increase your prostate cancer risk (Andersson. 1996) | Comment on FB!

How to Add Facebook Like box on Website or Blog

Facebook Like Box by Marks PC Solution

If you have a Facebook fan page or an official Facebook page of your blog or website, then you can place it in your site. Certainly this will ease your interaction with visitors or fans. Another issue you should keep in mind that it is also a part of SEO. Placing a like box may attract visitors to visit your site!

Earlier I wrote about how to create a pop out like box in your site. And also discussed how to create Facebook fan page. Remember: You must have a fan page to create a Facebook Like Box. If you dont know please read this first:

How to Create Facebook Fan Page

If youre ready then I can start. Read carefully.

To add a like box in your website or blog you have to place two codes in two different places. These are as below:

Code 1: Place this code on your page once, just after the opening <body> tag. If your site already has this code then you dont need to place it again.

<div id="fb-root"></div>

<script>(function(d, s, id) {
  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;
  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
  js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1";
  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, script, facebook-jssdk));</script>

Code 2: Place this code on your page wherever you want the plugin to appear on your page.
<div class="fb-like-box" data-href="http://www.facebook.com/markstips" data-width="240" data-height="350" data-show-faces="false" data-stream="false" data-header="false"></div>

You know, the second code is the main code. And the first one is just to help the second one. If your HTML has already the first code then you dont need to paste the code again.

Customization: The Red Parts of Code 2
  • Name: The word markstips should be replaced with your page name.
  • Width: Current width is 240. You can increase or decrease.
  • Height: Current height is 350. Change it if necessary.

Tips: Try to place the second at the footer of your page. It will be helpful to load the site faster. Not only this code, you should place any Java Code at the bottom. If more java codes are placed at the header it will dramatically affect your sites loading time.

Implementing the Code on Blogger:

Code 1: Template > Edit HTML > Proceed > Now find <body tag by pressing Ctrl + F > After few lines paste the code from code 1 above > Save. If you placed any code like it earlier then you dont need to paste again.

Code 2: Layout > Add a Gadget > HTML/ JavaScript > Copy and paste the code from Code 2 above > Save

Now view your blog or refresh it. You will be able to see this within few seconds. If the server is down, then the like box may delay to appear on your site. Until then, keep waiting.

Advice: If you dont think the like box not important for you, or if you think it consumes your site space then you can try this one: Pop Out Facebook Like Box.

If this code is not working properly, or if you face any problem to implement the code, then try to make the code directly from Facebook Developers.

HOW TO TEACH LINEAR PERSPECTIVE WITH MS WORD

MICROSOFT WORD DRAWING PROJECT No. 13

TITLE :  HOW TO TEACH LINEAR PERSPECTIVE WITH MS WORD

TYPE  :   ILLUSTRATION

VISUAL ART LESSON TOPIC :   ELEMENT OF ART : SPACE

© Chang Hon Woon 2011

Space is one of the Elements of Art. The System of Perspective is one of the subtopics in the Space element which consists of Linear Perspective and Aerial Perspective. The point where the perspective lines meet is called the Vanishing Point.  A drawing can be made from one vanishing point, two vanishing points, and three vanishing points. There are a few rules in Linear Perspective but I’ll mention two which I consider the most important. I will use the simplest words to explain them. These rules are as follows:

  1. Receding parallel lines seem to converge and meet at a point known as the vanishing point on the horizon line, e.g. the railway tracks.
  2. Distance influences the size and height of objects. The objects in front are much bigger and longer than the objects further behind, e.g. the lamp posts along the road side.

What makes the system of perspective so important in visual art is that it helps to create the illusion of three-dimensional depth or space on a two-dimensional surface such as the drawing paper or the electronic canvas in Photoshop. By the way, you can also copy this drawing into PowerPoint to create a slide show presentation.

HOW TO DRAW A SNOWMAN IN MS WORD

MICROSOFT WORD DRAWING PROJECT No. 46

TITLE:   HOW TO DRAW A SNOWMAN IN MS WORD

    TYPE:    CLIP ART

Clip art images are small size pictures that can be easily added to the document. They can either be JPEG, Vector or other formats. The purpose of adding clip art images into the document is to illustrate or enhance its appearance. There are many ways to obtain clip art images but have you ever tried creating clip art images on your own with the word processor? Images created in MS Word are vector graphics and they are saved as DOC files. Many of the drawing projects featured on my blog can actually be used as clip art images. Here is a simple drawing project and I hope readers can try it out, that is drawing a snowman in MS Word. First, draw a picture of the snowman on a piece of paper. This practice enables you to know the details of the subject well. Later on, you can proceed to draw it on the computer using your creativity.

Use only the Curve line tool to draw the picture of the snowman. I love to use the Curve line tool to draw organic shape objects because the results will be quite natural. Start by drawing three round shapes of different sizes. Then, create the details for the head. After that, complete the details for the body. Finally, fill the shapes with colours of your choice.

This digital drawing of a snowman was drawn with MS word 2003 Drawing program.

    THE DISSECTED DRAWING:

A total of 36 drawing objects were created to form the picture of the snowman.

Caffeine to Hummingbird An Upgrade to Google Search Algorithm!

Google Hummingbird is the New Search Algorithm
Most of the internet users have no idea about how the search engine works. The system that a search engine applies to find the relevant results among millions of websites is called Search Algorithm. Whether you will find an appropriate result from a search depends on the algorithm. With a powerful Search Algorithm, Google is the top search engine of the world. And recently a new search algorithm, called Hummingbird, has been launched by the search giant.

Septermber 26, 1998. The starting of Google. And just yesterday, Google celebrated their 15th Birthday. This birthday was not a mere celebration actually. Moreover it comes with an annoucement of major change in Google Search Engine Algorithm. Its been 3 years since Google made a major change in their search algorithm named as Caffeine. And the new one, Hummingbird, has been lunched one month ago.

Amit Singhal, senior vice president of search, said on Thursday- the company launched its latest "Hummingbird" algorithm about a month ago and that it currently affects 90 percent of worldwide searches via Google.

    Whats New in Hummingbird?

    • Capable of handling large and complex queries
    • Precise and Faster Processing of Queries
    • Focus on the meaning behind the query words
    • Pay more attention to earch word in a query
    • Consider the relevance of the pages rather than focusing on the page rank only.
    • Improved converstional search (People When Speaking Searches)

These are all Ive been able to gather about Hummingbird. Because, Google didnt inform much about it. Ive collected those information from different websites. Lets discuss some other issues:

    What about Pagerank?

Most of you know that pagerank indicates the overall quality of a site. But in Google search, pagerank is not everything. There are more than 200 search signals used by Google to sort search results. And pagerank is one of them.

Hummingbird considers pagerank too. But it emphasizes on the relevance of the query. If the search query matches your contents, no matter who you are and what is your ranking, you will be the in the first page. And thats how Marks PC Solution competes with storng sites even with a page rank 0.

Is there any Feature of Caffeine?

Sure! Some parts of old search algorithm is still being used by Hummingbird. It just changes the unncessary parts and adds some new. But nobody can guarantee about the old parts. Because they could be changed anytime if Google finds something better.

What Happened to Updates like Penguine, Panda etc?

From time to time, Google updated their algorithm. Sometimes they added new tools like penguine, panda etc. Some of them are being cosidered as the parts of old engine in a new engine. I mean, these were not changed entierly.

    What about SEO?

As the search algorithm changes, SEO experts and site developers may think of change in ther optimization techniques. Though Google assures that no change is necessary. It said there is nothing to worry about SEO.

But I personally dont believe this. Definitely the new algorithm will affect the search appearance of a site either positively or negatively.

So far I know, Hummingbird doesnt hamper the search result position of Marks PC Solution. My suggestion is- Increase your Google+ Sharings. Grow your followers in Google Plus if youd like to be favoured by Google!

Ubuntu 12.04 can lose its display resolution if it can no longer detect your display device. For example, the next time you boot your Ubuntu 12.04 PC, you might find that your display resolution has switched from 1280 x 960 to 800 x 600, which is nearly useless. Fortunately, this happens only rarely. In case you should be not so lucky, this document defines display resolution and explains how you might restore it in your Ubuntu 12.04 PC.
Note: Although this document applies specifically to Ubuntu 12.04, it also applies generally to other Ubuntu releases.
    Defining display resolution
A 1280 x 960 (1280 columns by 960 rows of pixels) resolution displays 1,228,800 total pixels. In contrast, an 800 x 600 resolution displays only 480,000 total pixels, which reduces overall display resolution by 61%. For more information, please see Resolution, by Ted Hewitt at Riverside Community College.
    Restoring Ubuntu 12.04 display resolution
If you lose normal display resolution on your Ubuntu 12.04 PC, you might restore your resolution by re-enabling display detection as follows:
    1. Turn off your display, and then disconnect its AC power cord.
    2. After waiting longer than 15 seconds, reconnect the AC power cord to your display, and then turn it on.
    3. Reboot your Ubuntu 12.04 PC.
    4. As shown in Figure 1 below, in the launcher, click the System Settings icon to display its window.
    5. As shown in Figure 2 below, in the Hardware section, click the Displays icon to display its window.
    6. Click Detect Displays to detect your display.
    7. Select a resolution, such as 1280 x 960 (4:3), and then click Apply to change the resolution.
    8. If you like your selected resolution, click Keep This Configuration to display a window similar to Figure 3 below.
Note: For additional information about trouble-shooting Ubuntu display resolution, please see Why cant Ubuntu 12.04 detect my screen resolution?.

HOW TO DRAW A HOUSE IN MS WORD

MICROSOFT WORD DRAWING PROJECT No. 12 (PART 1)

TITLE :  HOW TO DRAW A ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE MODEL HOUSE IN MS WORD

    TYPE   :  ILLUSTRATION

    © Chang Hon Woon
Here is the model of a modest brick house complete with a chimney that was drawn entirely by Freeform line tool. First, start with the side portion. Secondly, draw the front portion of the house. Next, draw the roof, and so on. Some knowledge about linear perspective is needed to create this drawing so that the drawing will not be out of proportion. I will show you later how to use this drawing project to teach an art lesson about one point perspective. I actually tried the idea of teaching students the basics of computer graphics with MS Word in my school many years ago. My main intention was to expose them to the concept of computer graphics. I took my students to the school computer lab a few times and taught them how to draw pictures with the MS Word  Drawing toolbar (Microsoft Office 95 and 97) and they enjoyed the lessons. The picture that I taught them to draw was an adult ant (with wings) which could be drawn using only the Oval and Moon shapes and Line tool for the feelers. Let me leave this project like that for the time being (without the dissected drawing parts) for readers to practise drawing the model house on their own as homework. I will show how the drawing is done in my next post. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. See you then!

Take Online Typing Test to Boost your Speed

    Typing Test Speed Score

Typing speed is an asset for a person. In many cases people may rate you by your typing speed. You can measure your typing speed by taking online typing tests. There are many sites available for taking typing tests. Today Im gonna talk about some popular and useful sites for taking typing tests.

This is my second post about typing. If youre regular on this site then you should notice this post- Typing Speed Secret!. In that post I discussed about how to increase typing speed.

Today Im gonna share 4 sites from where you can take typing tests. Its totally free of cost and online. You dont need to install any software or anything. All of them have some advantages and disadvantages. You can choose any of them. Whatever you do, make sure youre trying regularly. Otherwise nothing and none can increase your speed.

    • TypingTest.com: This is the most strong and popular site for taking typing test. In fact, this site is a part of famous Typing Master Software. After visiting this site youve to set the language, duration and article. Then hit on Start Test. Immediately you will be redirected to the test page. Start typing to begin the test. After finishing the test, youve to carefully analyze the result.

    • Free Online Touch Typing Speed Test Another popular site for typing test. The most important feature of this site is- simple. Ya this site is really very simple and easy to use. When you visit the site a new article will appear. To start the test, hit on Start the Clock button. When you finish hit on Stop the Clock. After stopping the clock you will get the result.

    • Rapid Typing Zone: Well this site is more interesting. At least this site has attracted me. Know why? Because it stores your result! When you visit this site you can see the list of recent test results. Your name and speed will also be displayed there after taking the test. And you can also see the list of speed winner! To start the test, type your name and set your text. Then hit on Start test, and when you finish click on Done

    • Speed Typing Online: This site is fantastic! Ive never seen such a marvelous system. This site doesnt show the text separately. The given text is gray colored. When you type the color will be green. If youre wrong the text color will be red. Speed and accuracy will be counted immediately.

These are the online methods of taking typing tests. But these methods are only for those people who dont wanna install typing master. But if you have any typing software then you may get something more from it.

First, I personally suggest you to use Typing Master software. When your speed is more than 30 wpm then you should go for the online test.

Remember: Before memorizing the keys do not try to increase the speed. If you do so, then your accuracy will not be satisfactory.

Tips: While trying to increase the speed, also focus on accuracy.

How to Put Blogger Site Offline

    Access Denied to Blogger Blog

Both Blogger and WordPress have an option to put the site offline or make it unavailable permanently or temporarily. You may need to put your site offline for a number of reasons. In this post, I will just talk about how to limit access to a blogger site. At the same time, you can deny the search engines to access your site and you can also restrict general people to view your contents.

As mentioned earlier, there could be several reasons behind putting the site offline. Such as -

    • You can restrict search engines to crawl your site. Because you would like to decorate your site first. In that case you can limit search engines access.
    • You may need to make your site unavailable temporarily due to political violations or religious issues.
    • Or may be the site could be a private one. Maybe its subject to be unavailable to the public.

Whatever the reason, or even if you dont need to put your site offline, at least you should know the way. Some bloggers even think, why I put my site offline? When Im trying to cirulate the site as much as possible? Ive already mentioned the reasons! :)

Restrict Search Engines Crawl your Site

You can limit search engines access to index your site if necessary. Follow the steps below -

    1. Go to Blogger Control Panel/ Settings/ Dashboard.
    2. Choose Settings from the left pane.
    3. Select Basic > Basic > Privacy.
    4. Choose No for both options as below.
    5. Hit on the Save Changes button.

     Privacy Option in Blogger Blog

The first No doesnt matter much. But the second No matters! If you choose No in the second option, your site will not be crawled by search engines. But everyone will be able to access your site.

Restrict Public Access to your Contents

If your site is private and you dont want people view your contents, then you can absolutely restrict public access. Follow the steps below -

    1. Go to Blogger Control Panel > Settings.
    2. Choose Basic under the Settings option.
    3. Find the Blog Readers option under Permissions section.
    4. Here you have three choices: Public, Private (Blog Authors), Private (Selected Persons).
    5. If you choose the second option, only blog authors will be able to access the site. Other people will just get a message - This is a private blog
    6. If you would like to add some readers, then choose the third option. Then add readers from your contact list or you can type their emails. Whenever they try to access your site, they have to log in.
    7. Finally, hit on the Save Changes button.

Blog Readers Permission in Blogger Site

    Tips!

If your site is totally new, then you can use the Privacy option only. You can stop search engine crawl your site. Because search engines will not find enough contents in a new site. Thats why its better to write first. Then you may let search engines to index your site. But you can keep your site Public.

Later I will discuss the same thing for WordPress site.

Endurance Training ? Overtraining Muscle Loss Run to Exhaustion Sympathetic Medium Intensity Steady State Parasympathetic HIIT Like Training No Overtraining

HIIT-like 400m sprinting is exhausting, but unlike running to exhaustion and medium intensity steady state cardio its not going to mess up your nervous system.
Not one but two recent studies confirm what many of us have experienced first hand: Endurance training - specifically during a cut - is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, its a neat way to augment the energy deficit, when youre dieting and maintain in a eucaloric state, when youre not. On the other hand, however, even moderate endurance training can alter the sympathetic and parasympathetic balance and thus create an imbalance that is characteristic of any form of overtraining.

Speaking of overtraining: As a SuppVersity reader you should actually be aware of the fact that scientists distinguish two different types of overtraining: Sympathetic and parasympathetic overtraining
You can learn more about HIIT, which appears to be less overtraining prone than MISS.

    Never Train To Burn Calories!

    Tabata = 14.2kcal /min ? Fat Loss

Making HIIT a Hit Part I/II

Making HIIT a Hit Part II/II

    Triple Your Energy Exp.
Due to the fact that the symptoms (see Figure 1) closely resemble those Morbus Basedow (engl. Graves Diseases) and Addisons Disease, respectively, sympathetic and parasympathetic overtraining are also called Basedowoid and Addisinoid overtraining.
Figure 1: Overview of the symptoms of the two major forms of overtraining.
You can see that the symptoms partly overlap. Thats yet not the only problem you have if you want to diagnose the type of overtraining. In many resistance trainees, for example, you find either mixed forms or see a transition from classic sympathetic to parasympathetic overtraining over time (assuming the athlete doesnt do anything to normalize his / her sympathetic nervous system function).
There is no formula to calculate how much exercise you can sustain, but Id suggest you take a look at my previous articles on heart rate variability and overtraining ("Are You Overtraining? Two Scientifically Proven Methods to Test Yourself - Method 1: Heart Rate Variability Analyses" | read more). They will help you to check, where youre at, if you have a baseline reading that was taken, when youve been completely rested  | learn more.
For the average study participant in a recent experiment that was conducted by scientists from the , The 42nd Hospital of PLA, the Xinqiao Hospital and the Chongqing Normal University in China, the duration and intensity of their cardio workouts (running) determined, whether the prescribed workout routines that consisted of ...
    • There is such a thing as overtraining, folks | read more
4 times a week running at 100% of their maximal heart rate until they were exhausted (utmost intensity group)

    • 30 minutes of running four times per week (moderate intensity group)

    • 3 - 5x 1200 m runs per day with a  5-min break every 400 m four times per week (high intensity group)
made them overtrain or not, and whether their para- or sympathetic nervous system was overreacting.
Table 1: Characteristics of study groups at pre and post | Data are means XS± . Pre, pretraining; post, at the end of 8-week training; mid, at the end of 4-week training. Utmost, utmost intensity endurance training; moderate, moderate intensity endurance training; high, high intensity endurance training (Tian. 2014)
The subjects, 72 nonsmoking male students whose characteristics are summarized in Table 1, followed the routine they had been randomized to for 8 weeks. As you can see, there were no statistical significant changes in body composition over the course of the 8-week study. Although, it sould seem that the body fat percentage (I assume BFR is body fat) declined a tad bit more in the high intensity group.
Greater fat loss with HIIT, this wouldnt be a surprise - Thats no news for you as a SuppVersity reader. Ive repeatedly pointed out that the short intense workouts are more suitable for fat loss; and that not in spite of, but rather because they may burn less body fat during exercise.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, I suggest you take another look at my June 2012 article "Are You Still Burning Calories or Already Losing Fat? Study Shows: 5x15 Min HIIT Reduce Body Fat & Improve Fitness Twice as Effectively as 5x40min of Classic Cardio" (learn more) after youve finished this article.
Where the subjects differed, however, was in their response to the specific aerobic exercise programs theyve been assigned to (I will directly quote the results from Tian et al (2014) and briefly comment on each of them):
    • Heart rate variability (HRV): No significant changes in HRV parameters were found in all groups at pre and mid. But at post, the moderate intensity group showed more significant increases in RMSSD, PNN50, HF, LF and SDNN (P < 0.05 or 0.01) and much greater reduction in LF/HF than the other two groups (P was 0.033, 0.037 respectively). HFn of the moderate intensity group was significantly higher than that of the utmost intensity group (P = 0.012), while the opposite pattern occurred in LFn and LF/HF of the two groups (P was 0.025, 0.015 respectively).

As you would expect the changes in HRV in the moderate and utmost intensity group reflect increases in parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system activity, respectively.
    • Circadian Changes in Cold Pressor Test (CPT): From pre to post marked differences were not found in SBP and DBP of all groups and their increases. At post HR was much less increased in utmost intensity group during CPT than the other two groups (average P < 0.05).

Next to a high basal heart rate an inhibited increase in heart rate is another characteristic of later stages of sympathetic overtraining.
    • Plasma catecholamine (NE & EPI): Norepinephrine (NE) concentration was considerably lower in utmost intensity group than the other two groups (P was 0.001, 0.00 respectively). At post marked inter-group differences were still not found in plasma PEI concentration.

A reduced catecholamine release is a classic characteristic of long(-er) term sympathetic overtraining - a phenomenon, some people may call "adrenal fatique" that occurs after an initial phase of catecholamine overproduction in sympathetic overtraining.
Overall, the results of the study at hand confirm previous research that found associations between classic "moderate intensity" endurance training and parasympathetic dominance (Yamamoto. 2001; Pichot. 2002; Myslivecek. 2002).

For the utmost intensity group, on the other hand, the scientists diagnosed an "over-excited SN [sympathetic nervous system]" (Tian. 2014), which is in contrast to the medium intensity and high intensity group, where the head-up tilt test did not indicate an "impairing effect on autonomic regulation" (Tian. 2014).
What about muscle loss? Oh, yes! I almost forgot that scientists from the University of the Witwatersrand (Oost- huyse. 2014) in South Africa have recently been able to show that 3 h of race- simulated cycling on 4 consecutive days may improve the cyclists ability to tap into their fat stores as an energy reserve. Unfortuna- tely, it will also lead to a 28-46% greater reliance on endogenous protein catabolism during exercise on day 2-4.
Now, every SuppVersity reader knows that protein catabolism doesnt necessarily translate ot "muscle loss", but for the average 10h of cardio + 20% energy deficit "dieter", it could.
Bottom line: A least in the study at hand, the intense, albeit better short bouts of high intensity exercise in the HIIT-like high intensity group of the study at hand turn out to be the least overtraining prone type of aerobic activity.

Even the classic medium-intensity cardio training appears to be more overtraining-prone, due to the comparatively long duration and the subsequent increase in parasympathetic nervous system activity. If youre looking for a "side-effect free" cardio regimen, 3-5x intervals of 3x400m sprints could be a good way to incorporate cardio training into your exercise routine.

One thing we should keep in mind, though, is that someone who is sympathetically overtraining in the gym with all its negative consequences (see Figure 1) would probably be better of with classic "moderate intensity cardio" to bring up the parasympathetic tone and avoid "weight lifting induced" sympathetic dominance | Comment on Facebook!
