Guidelines before and after Getting AdSense!

Dos and Donts in AdSense Program

This topic might be very useful for those who wanna place AdSense Ad in their websites or blogs. In this post Im giving you some guidelines that maybe useful for you to get Adsense and to maintain it after getting this.

If you carefully follow these guidelines, it will be easier for you to earn some cash from Adsense. Otherwise you may suffer just like me! Regular visitor of this site should know that Ive already rejected 4 times from AdSense Program! And waiting to be rejected for the 5th time!

Lets start our AdSense concern. AdSense provide a specific set of rules for publishers. You can find it here- AdSense Program Policy. But very few of them read this carefully and consequently they suffer and lose their account.

So I will try my best to make the rules clear to you. Lets start.

Before Getting AdSense - Be Steady . . .

  • Your site must be easy to navigate. And it should be user friendly.
  • It shouldnt contain any types of illegal, matured, adult or violent contents.
  • It shouldnt redirect users to unwanted websites.
  • It shouldnt contain any copyrighted material.
  • It shouldnt contain any types of hacking, cracking or gambling related contents.
  • It shouldnt contain any pop out ads that bore users. Know More . . .
  • Dont place any third party Ads (Although AdSense allow this)
  • Your site should have sufficient visitors. But make sure that it doesnt get traffic only from a certain source. And never participate any paid-to-click program to increase your site traffic.
  • And finally try to publish the unique contents that drives more traffic.

After Getting AdSense - Be Careful!
  • The very first thing you need to do after getting AdSense is to be careful. Because your AdSense account maybe disabled at any time!
  • Never click your own Ads. And not a single click to test.
  • Never encourage others to click the Ads by any means.
  • Never try to make artificial clicks.
  • Place the Ads in a way so that it doest disturb the visitors.
  • The Ads should be distinguishable from your sites contents.
  • And finally follow all the rules that you did before getting AdSense.

If this post is useful for you then please let me know it by your valuable comments.

AdSense Tips Best Performing Ad Types Sizes

Most Successful Ad Types and Sizes for AdSense Publishers

Im currently working with AdSense and learning different tips. And you know, when I learn something I share my knowledge with you. I am willing to share AdSense tips with you. Today I will share the best performing Ad Types and Sizes for AdSense publishers.

You may also like:
  • Guidelines before and after getting AdSense
  • Ad Placement Guidelines
  • 10 Years of AdSense

Those who are currently working with AdSense should know, it has different types of Ad Types and Sizes available for the publishers.

The available sizes are:
  • Large, Medium and Small Rectangle
  • Banner and Half Banner
  • Leaderboard
  • Wide and Large Skyscraper
  • Square, Small Square
  • Horizontal Row
  • Different Types of Buttons

AdSense allows you publish three types of Ads:
  • Text & Image Ads
  • Only Text Ads
  • Rich Media Ads (ie. Flash)

Depending on users demands AdSense provides these ad types and sizes. But all of them are not effective for always.

The sizes that AdSense found most effective are as follows:

Large Rectangle: The size of a large rectangle is 336x280. Looks better when you place this within a post or after the post. Sometimes placed at the right sidebar. But placing it within contents is more effective.

Ideal for Text/Image ads or Rich media.

336x280 Ad Unit

Medium Rectangle: Almost similar to large rectangle. But little bit smaller in size: 300x250. Used when the publisher wanna save the site space. Or when you dont have sufficient room to place large rectangle within contents or side bar.

Ideal for Text/Image Ads. But can be used with rich media too.

300x250 Ad Unit

Leaderboard: Usually placed at the top of the site. These ads are attractive when used with rich media or flash ads. The size of this ads is 728x90.

But when your site has a side bar on the left or right, then it can only be placed at the top. Just below the site title. I mean huge space is required to place a leaderboard ad.

728x90 Ad Size

160x600 Ad for Right Side Bar

Wide Skyscraper: The most successful ad size I believe personally. Usually placed at the side bar of a site. And I think without a left or right sidebar, you cant use wide skyscraper.

Skyscraper is ideal for Image/Rich Media/Flash ads. Though AdSense sometimes shows text ads here. But when rich media ads are shown on skyscraper, the chance of attracting the visitors increase significantly.

The size of wide skyscraper is 160x600. So you must have at least 200 px side bar. It can be left or right. But I think right sidebar is more effective.

There is a large skyscraper too. Which is 300x600. But I think this will be really space consuming. And if rich media ads are shown on large skyscraper, definitely it will slow down your site which could be dangerous for you.

So I suggest you to use this ad with rich media, at the right sidebar of your site.

Adjusting Ad Size with the Site:

Its true that these 4 ad sizes perform well. But if your site doesnt match with these sizes, dont worry. Choose the ad size that complements your pages most. Read the guide to ad sizes.

When your space is low you can use Five Links Ad Units:
  • Horizontal Row: 728 x 15
  • Horizontal Row: 468 x 15
These two ads has more CTR. And they can hardly slow down your site.

Most Successful Ad Types:

AdSense usually provides three types of Ads:
  • Text Ads (with Links)
  • Text/ Image Ads
  • Rich Media/ Flash (Also known as Display Ads)

AdSense recommends to use all of these types of ads. So you have to allow all of them to be appeared on your site. Because sometimes rich media ads are not available to be displayed. Though the text ads will pay you low but sometimes your ad space might be blank if your disallow them.

To maximize your earning, youve to show all these three types of ads on your site.

Making Site Compatible with AdSense Policies

Making Site Compatible with AdSense

While applying for the AdSense, there are different ways you might get disapproved by Google. One of them is Incompatible Site. You will get a message like this - Site does not comply with Google policies. Its really frustrating when your sites content is okay but Google denies your AdSense request.

Today I would like to discuss how to solve the issue - Site does not comply with Google policies. In fact, after having the custom domain, Im also facing the same problem. But I can solve it within few days.

There are three major areas on which you have to focus in order to make your site compatible with Google AdSense policies:
  • Design and Content Guidelines
  • Technical Guidelines
  • Quality Guidelines

Though you will get a detailed discussion in Google Webmaster Guideline Page, Id like to summarize the topic for you. Because only few people have the patience to read a 1200 words + article! And some of the issues are highly technical. I will try to make them as clear as possible.

Design and Content Guidelines
  • Your site should have a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be accessible from at least one static text link. I suggest you to use Blog Archive and Categories.
  • Provide a sitemap for the users so that they can explore your site as they want.
  • Make your site useful and informative. Keep your contents accurate and clear. Read my contents writing guidelines . . .
  • Think about the words which users might search for and include those words in your contents post titles. Dont forget to relate your contents to those key words.
  • Images are not recognized by search engines. Use as much text as possible in your contents. And label your images properly, consider using the Alternative description too.
  • Try to find out HTML errors (if any) and fix them.

Technical Guidelines
  • Keep your site faster. Analyze the loading time of your site through various tools available over the web. Slower sites get less pageviews. So, never let it down.
  • Test your site in major browsers (ie. Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari etc.) and make sure that it appears correctly.
  • Properly use robots.txt so that search engines can crawl your site smoothly.
  • Get your domain registered in high quality servers.

Quality Guidelines
  • Built your contents primarily for the users, not for the search engines.
  • Never try to deceive/mislead your users.
  • Never follow the illegal techniques that automatically improve your search ranking position by cheating the search engines. (Black Hat SEO)
  • Differentiate your site from competitors. Keep it unique, informative and valuable for the users.

Avoid the Following Techniques
  • Generating Contents Automatically
  • Participating in Link Exchange
  • Cloaking - Showing different contents to human and search engines
  • Redirecting the Users to an Unwanted Site
  • Hiding Text/Links
  • Copying/ Stealing Contents from other Sites
  • Participating in Affiliate Programs without Sufficient Contents
  • Using Irrelevant Keywords to Improve Search Ranking
  • Spreading Virus, Malware, Spam, Phishing etc.

Violating any of the above rules may take your site down in the search engine rank position. And your site may not comply with Google AdSense Policies.

How to Verify AdSense Account without PIN

Manual Verification Process of AdSense Account

Those of youre working with Google AdSense should know, AdSense account needs to be verified by a PIN Number. AdSense sends the PIN number in your postal address. And then you have to enter the PIN number in your AdSense account settings. If postal communication is okay in your area, then its very easy for you to verify the account. Unfortunately, if your postal service is poor, wouldnt you be able to earn through Google AdSense?

Why you Need to Verify PIN Number?

Traditional payment system of AdSense is Check. When you request for payment, Google sends check to your postal address. Thats why you need to ensure the AdSense team that your address is correct. When you get the letter from AdSense including PIN number, then Google sends check to your address.

If you cant Get the PIN Letter?

Its very natural that you could miss the PIN letter. Thats why Google gives you three chances to request for AdSense PIN letter. That means you can request the PIN number for three times. At best three letters will be issued for you. If youre not as unlucky me, you should get the PIN.

Three Times Failed! How to Verify PIN?

Lets come to the point. My todays post is all about this! Ive applied for the PIN number three times. But I havent got it yet. But Ive verified my AdSense Account without PIN number! This is called manual verification process.

Manual Verification Process (No PIN Required)!

As there are some other options to get your money from AdSense, the use of PIN number is not mandatory I think. Even Bangladeshis can now withdraw their money through bank accounts.

But AdSense team doesnt like to remove the PIN verification feature to ensure the safety of your account. If you cant enter the PIN number even after trying for three times, then AdSense may consider your issue.

Suppose youve tried your last chance for getting the PIN number. Now go step by step:

  1. You will get an option at the page where youre supposed to verify the PIN.
  2. You will be required to describe your problem in details. Within few hours you will get a confirmation message that your problem has been forwarded to the concerened authority.
  3. Or contact directly through this email: adsense-support@google.com
  4. Hopefully AdSense team will contact you within 24 hours. They may ask your Govt. Issued ID Card with your Payee Name and Postal Address (As shown in AdSense account). If your AdSense account address is different from ID card, then you can use utility bills copy which has the same address as shown in your AdSense account. Upload the scanned ID Card with Utility Bill if necessary. Send it to the above AdSense Support Email.
  5. Remember, the language of your ID Card and Utitlity Bill Copy should be one of the Supported Languages of AdSense. Otherwise AdSense Team might not be able to verify your account.
  6. After sending your National ID Card or Electrict Bill or Gas Bill to the AdSense Team, you will get another email within next 24 hour. If AdSense is satisfied, your account will be verified without PIN! Believe me - Ive made it!

Secret Tips:

Suppose your Govt. ID Card is not issued in one of the supported languages. Will you try to manually edit the ID? Sounds bad - but not bad at all! Suppose your National ID is in Bengali or Hindi. You can just edit your Name, ID Number and Address and rewrite these in English. But make sure that AdSense will not be able to detect it. Otherwise your account may be suspended.

Got my 1st Payment from Google AdSense!!

First Payment from AdSense through Wire Transfer

To be honest, Im really surprised. Just 20 days ago, I shared a success story - 2nd Payment from 360 Ads! In that post I mentioned, due to the transaction issue, my AdSense Payment is not coming to bank account. But only a few days ago, I got my Payout from Google AdSense!

Only a few months ago, Google introduced Bank Wire Transfer for Bangladeshis. And I selected this payment system immediately. Then Google sent $272 to my Bank Account. But the payment was rejected by Citi Bank NA Singapore due to compliance issue. And I got disappointed.

Then Ive contacted AdSense team. They assured that, the problem will be solved soon. Days were passing but I found no luck. Again they sent payment of $438 on 21 February, 2014. And I was continuously checking my bank account. Few days later, AdSense Compliance Team informed me that they need some additional information to verify my account. Ive provided the necessary information.

After checking my Bank Account for more than 10 times, I got bored. Finally the payment came to my account on 20 March, 2014. And it was automatically deposited into the account. So I didnt know the balance has been added silently! And thats the most interesting part. When I was continuously trying to get the payment, it didnt come. But when I give up the idea, its come automatically. :)

If everything is okay, I will not suffer to collect my next payment. Since AdSense has resolved the compliance issue and verified my account.

Have a look at the Payment Receipt below:

Google AdSense Wire Transfer Receipt

Payment Method: Bank Wire Transfer

Payment was made through Bank Wire Transfer. And the service charge is really low. Google doesnt take any fee over the transfer.

Google sent me $ 438.90 = Tk. 34,142

And I received $ 434.40 = Tk. 33674

Transfer Fee $ 4.5 = Tk. 350 (Im really confused! I thought it could be at least $30)

Next Plan

My CPU is about to die - shuts down any time without notice! Sometimes it runs 3 days without problems. Sometimes it doesnt run for 3 minutes properly! And the most recent problem is Hard Disk Error. Windows 8 has detected a hard disk error. It warns to back up my files. I may lose all of data any time.

So Ive decided to purchase a new system. My budget is $ 350. After purchasing the PC, hopefully I will discuss about PC configuration, hardware etc.

And as Im earning continuously, my parents hardly get borded with my PC works. :) Now Ive got more opportunites to enrich my site. And the visitors of Marks PC Solution will get more . . .

AdSense will Pay through Banks Accounts!

Get your AdSense Money through Bank Accounts

Well thats a terrific news specially for Bangladeshis! Waiting for months? Annoyed with payment procedure? Giving up the idea to earn money through AdSense? As a Bangladeshi, you might be hopeless due to the thousands of problems regarding your AdSense account. But this time, there is a hope!

Just three days ago, Google AdSense have announced that, Bangladeshi AdSense Publishers will be able to transfer Ad Revenue through their respective Bank Accounts! They dont have to wait for the checks for a long time and they dont need to wait to cash those checks!

In many countries, Google is paying through EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer). But it is not available in Bangladesh. In this situation, Wire Transfer System will be really helpful for Bangladeshi Publishers.

The payment will be made through International Wire Transfer instead of issuing checks. And certainly this will be fast, secure and convenient for the publishers to receive their payments. Minimum payment balance is as usual, I mean payment threshold is $100.

Kazi Monirul Kabir, Country Director, Google Bangladesh, has informed this news through his Facebook Status.

Procedure:

You must have a bank account. And make sure that your bank has a SWIFT code. In your payment options, you have to provide your Bank Name, Account Number, Swift code etc. And your payment option should be the Wire Transfer.

International Wire Transfer System through Bank Account

Look at the above image. In order to add a Bank Account, log in to AdSense and then to the Payments tab > Select Payment Settings > Add Bank Account > Fill up the information.
  • Enter your Account Name as exactly mentioned in your Bank Account. (ie. Abdur Rahaman)
  • Bank Name (ie. Uttara Bank Ltd.)
  • Bank Account Number (Use the Full A/C No. with Code)
  • Bank Identifier Code or BIC is also known as SWIFT Code. You may get the code through banks website or annual report. Or you can contact to the banker. (The SWIFT Code of Uttara Bank is - UTBLBDDH).

Finally, save your settings. If you wanna get your current payment through Bank Account, provide your account information Before 21st November.

Is there any Extra Charge?

You dont have to pay Google any extra charge! But if your bank asks for any charge then you may need to pay them. And you should also contact your bank for further information.

Google also informs that this convenient payment system will be introduced in other countries soon.

AdSense Friendly Custom Robots txt for Blogger

Custom Robots.txt for Blogger

Bloggers who have SEO Knowledge, should know about robots.txt and its use. But it is quite unfamiliar to the new bloggers. But some of them might be interested in Bloggers search preferences and they must ask about what is Custom robots.txt? Well this is not so easy to explain. To the new bloggers, the explanation might be confusing. In order to explain the term robots.txt, Ive to tell about search bots or search crawlers. But I will try to explain the term clearly.

Suppose, youve opened a blog in blogger. continuously youre publishing new posts. If everything is okay, your post will appear in Google Search within few hours. If your post is matched with someones search topic, your site will appear in the search results. How its possible?

Bloggers Default robots.txt:

Search engines scan your site for new posts continuously. This is known as crawling. Search bots crawl your site regularly and index your posts in their directory. By default, blogger comes with a robots.txt for your site that helps search engines crawl your site.

But as we know, the default or general settings never guarantee the accurate result. So we need to customize the settings as our requirement. Same rule is applicable for bloggers robots.txt.

Custom Robots.txt for Blogger Blog:

Today you will learn how to customize the robots.txt of blogger. There is a rumor that the default robots.txt cant index the old posts properly. If you have a proper custom robots.txt, your posts will be indexed properly. In my last post, I discussed about creating XML sitemap for blogger blog. There I gave example of XML sitemap. You can use that sitemap as your custom robots.txt content.

Custom Robots.txt Settings for Blogger

Look at the above image. This is how you can customize your robots.txt element. Or use the instruction below:

Sign in to Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Search Preferences > Crawler and Indexing > Custom robots.txt > Enable? > Yes > Now add the code below > Save Changes.

# Blogger Sitemap generated on 2013.11.06
User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: /
Sitemap: http://www.markspcsolution.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

Here you just need to change the site URL. Replace the word munnamark with yours. And for sure, this will help search engines for better crawling of your site.

AdSense Friendly Custom Robots.txt for Blogger:

This custom robots.txt might be less useful for AdSense enabled blog. If you use this type of custom robots.txt in your blog, AdSense will not be able to show relevant ads on your site. Consequently your ads impression you will affected seriously. And ultimately, your revenue will fall.

But a little change in that could save you all the day. If your site is AdSense enabled, then use the following code:

User-agent: Mediapartners-Google
Disallow:
# Blogger Sitemap generated on 2013.11.04
User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: /
Sitemap: http://
www.markspcsolution.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

Look, only the blue part has been added with the previous code. If youre working with AdSense then consider using this code as your robots.txt element. Actually the blue part is used by Google AdSense only.

If you use this code (User-agent: Mediapartners-Google Disallow:), AdSense will be able to crawl your posts properly. Then it will show relevant ads on your site. And the other part of the code will be used by the search engines for indexing your contents.

Trues and Falses in Optimizing AdSense

Couple of days ago Google AdSense offered its first online course for the Publishers. And Ive been too. The course will be opened on 20th May, 2014. Register now for the course and take a Pre-Course Assessment to justify your AdSense knowledge!

Course Outline
  • Pre-Course Assessment

  • Introduction

  • Unit 1 - CPM and CPC: Winning Valuable Ads

  • Unit 2 - Clicks and CTR: Designing and Placing Your Ads

  • Unit 3 - Impressions: Showing More Ads

  • Wrapping Up

  • Final Assessment

Just after getting the invitation for the course, I took the Pre-Course Assessment Test. There are 15 questions. You just need to choose one of the options - True, False and I dont know.

I scored 12 out of 15. This assessment will help you understand what you already know about AdSense and what you still have to learn. Have a look at the questions (modified) of Pre-Course Assessment -

    1. Enabling both text and image ads increases the auction pressure for your website’s Ad and is very likely to increase your AdSense Earning. (True)
    2. Every page should have a 728x90 banner ad on it because this is the highest performing Ad Size. (False)
    3. Blocking Ad categories in AdSense account will not affect your revenue because the auction will just replace Ads from that category with ads from other categories. (False)
    4. You can put the same Ad unit into multiple custom channels. (True)
    5. AdSense Experiments can be used to test and compare the performance of different sizes or styles of your Ad units. (True)
    6. CPC and CTR are different acronyms for the same thing. Both of them measure how often users click on Ads. (False)
    7. The only way to be sure that you’ve put Ads in the right places on your site is to test frequently and understand the behavior of your users. (True)
    8. The best way to format text Ads is to blend/ mix with your content as much as possible. (False)
    9. If your page calls for an Ad to be served but no Ad is returned, this will be considered as an Ad request, a page view, and an impression. (False)
    10. In the AdSense auction, if Advertiser Sami bids $2.40 CPC, Advertiser Raj bids $2.10 CPC, and Advertiser Chris bids $2.15 CPC, Advertiser Sami wins and pays $2.40 for the impression. (False)
    11. With contextual targeting, the Google web crawler analyzes colors, images and videos to match ads to your content. (False)
    12. The number of AdSense Ads you can place on a desktop site is the same as you can place on a mobile site. (True)
    13. Page speed is important to Ad revenue because users are more likely to stay on your page and return again if the site loads faster. (True)
    14. If the AdSense crawler cant crawl a web page, the Ads displayed to that page may not be relevant to the page content. (True)
    15. A rejected Ad request occurs when sites content does not comply with AdSense policies. (False)

Explanation of the False Ideas/ Concepts/ Notions

    Idea # 2

728 x 90 Banner Ads perform well. But it doesnt mean that your page must have it. It  depends on your sites style and type.

    Idea # 3

Blocking non performing Ad categories may increase your revenue if done properly. But personally, I dont believe it - Learn more . . .

    Idea # 6

CPC - Cost Per Click is the amount you earn each time when a user clicks on your Ad. CPC is determined by the Advertiser.

CTR - Click Through Rate is the number of clicks against pageviews. If you get 2 clicks against 10 pageviews, then your CTR is 20%.

    Idea # 8

Blending Ad Units in such a way that users cant differentiate between Ads and Contents may be harmful for your AdSense account. Even you could be banned from AdSense program!

    Idea # 9

If your page calls for an Ad to be served but no Ad is returned it will considered as rejected Ad request.

    Idea # 10

The Advertiser with the lowest CPC will win the bid. Advertiser Raj bids $2.10 CPC. So he will win the bid not Raj.

    Idea # 11

Contextual targeting analyzes your keywords, topics, text, language, link structure, page structure etc. It considers the central theme of your site rather than a single topic. To be honest, I dont know much about contextual targeting.

    Idea # 15

A rejected Ad request occurs when your page calls for an Ad to be served but no Ad is returned. But if your site doesnt comply with the AdSense policies, simply you will be banned from AdSense!
